Many things contribute to friendship. These could include courtesy, cheerfulness, generosity, admiration, agreement, inspiration, style, shared interests, etc. But some qualities are fundamental to all friendships. Chief among these are love, respect and perhaps most of all, integrity. Integrity means doing what is right by your friend even if they aren't present. Integrity means trust. Integrity means that you do what you said you would. If you change your mind, you will at least talk to your friend about it before breaking your word. People with integrity sometimes fail but they do not waver. They can be counted on to follow through to the best of their ability. Without integrity, a friendship dissolves because the people can no longer trust each other. You cannot feel confident in your knowledge of who, and how someone is without integrity. Integrity underlies all positive relationships. No amount of cheerfulness, admiration or generosity can compensate for a lack of integrity.
Friendship requires integrity
@kurtrisser Welcome to A2A! You have penned some very good thoughts and you are absolutely right about the value of integrity. If only everyone believed as you do, the world would certainly be a better place.
