I bought a cheap vibrator from a company called california novelties. this thing makes a hell of a noise
especially when turned to full speed. i worry what if this thing gets hot or what if it explodes? is something like this possible? i think the noise is caused by the batteries inside of the vibrator because they have too much play. i was thinking about stuffing some paper in there to fill the gap between the batteries and the shell but i don't know if this would be safe or if the batteries could get hot and then the paper might start to burn. am i worrying too much?

Could a vibrator get hot or explode?
-
If the motor overheats it will probably just stop working, but if anything feels like it is getting hot you should take it out immediately. Certainly I would urge against making modifications as they can have unintended consequences, like heat build-up. Better to invest in something better-made. The term 'novelties' usually suggests that the products are intended as joke gifts rather than real use.

The company only makes sex toys but it says that it's only to be used as a novelty product. I don't know why that is cause they are clearly sex toys. Could it be because of laws? Are sex toys illegal in some states in the US?
-
I don't know, but I'm sure there are some countries where they are illegal, so it may be an attempt to get around those laws.

I honestly can't say if they might explode; but it could be plausible. Many years ago after switching battery brands from energizer to rayovac then back to energizer, I had a rabbit melt, it got so hot using energizer batteries that the control's completely melted and seemed to find a speed that I had never been able to find before. Unable to shut the thing off with it stuck on this "hyper speed". Now just this morning when I went to use my latest toy I had discovered that the practically new duracells that have only powered the toy once since the last battery change a few weeks ago had exploded in the toy. I'm assuming the fault belongs to the extreme heat we've been having. But could be poor quality.
The toy itself may not explode (however considering so many things have expoloded due to heat/battery issues I would not say that it's completely out of the realm of possibilities) but the batteries just may which could be dangerous especially if in use at the time.

Wow this is scary!
I just bought a cheap magic wand at amazon cause I thought at this price I can't do much wrong even if it doesn't last long. But what scares me is that I later on found a review of someone saying this toy caught fire while not being used!
Now I am scared. I mean how likely is this? Let's say I use the wand and after using it I remove the batteries then is there still a danger that it starts to burn? Or is there no danger if the toy isn't hot after using it? Could it only start to burn if it's really hot? I don't really know what to do now. I mean I've bought it now and I don't know if I could send it back and I'd also like to just try it cause other people wrote that it's not bad. But the stuff with the fire worries me.
-
If there is no source of power (in this case batteries), I don't know how anything will burn unless a source of heat is applied to it. Removing the batteries should put your mind at ease.
-
@sully If you remove the batteries when not using it there would be no chance of fire.
-
Okay thanks then I better take out the batteries. It's really crazy when you think about it that
a toy could catch fire. I don't think many people remove the batteries from sex toys after use.
