i heard from somewhere that "people" (i dunno.. people as in .. the government?... i dunno XD) know what sites you've been too (esp. porn sites) know what sites your registered too...is this true?? O.o

Is It True.. [Please read! ^^]
-
Yes, I know all about your sick fetishes!
-
Anyone can figure that out.
-
yes, there are such things as "tracking cookies" that basically document where you have been. You can delete these by using a program like ad-aware or spybot search and destroy.

In reply to:yes, there are such things as "tracking cookies" that basically document where you have been. You can delete these by using a program like ad-aware or spybot search and destroy. Also, if you're worried about someone knowing where you've been, it would also be wise to clear the history folder of any, er, 'compromising' images and media. (that's if you're a windows user, anyway) You can clear the history folder by going to the "Internet Options" in the control panel and pressing the "Delete Files" button under the temporary files heading on the first tab of the Internet options window.I hope all that made sense ^_^; If not, maybe you can get someone to explain it to you better.

also the occasional reinstall does wonders for that bloody index.dat

guilty conscience speaking there Diver? grins actually its still fully possible to format your hard drive and still be able to tell exactly what was on it before it was formatted. that does require special machinery usually only available to police units dealing with computer crime though. the only foolproof way of never having your visited internet sites looked at by anyone is too replace the hard drive and burn the old one.
-
not when you format it twice
-
i think this would get rid of it:
http://www.heidi.ie/eraser/default.php
it writes over files 35 times with random 0s and 1s -
used it before... can really screw up an XP system
-
even with non-system files?
-
the last time I used it, nothing worked right after (happened the same time before) so it was another reinstall time... lol just finished doing another one... things slowed down a little too much for me
-
not so Diver. the only way i know besides the burning thing is to format it, re-use every block of memory that you wouldnt want to be seen, then re-format again. simply formatting twice wouldnt work, as it still leaves the same traceable signature each time. but i still wouldnt fully trust that to be completely safe then. but im paranoid so meh grins
