Who knows how young you can actually be diagnosed to have Erectile Dysfunction. I am 17 and am reasonably sure I have it but I always thought you had to be like 40 to get it. I know some of you are thinking that I am probably just nervous (which may be the case) but I also cannot maintain erections sometimes when I masterbate. Anyone know if there is a possibility of me having it at such a young age, and if so, think I should go to a doctor. I have had to tell my last three girlfriends that "I don't like it getting head" and "I get more enjoyment from doing stuff to you" and other bullshit like that so I need some kind of help. Doctor? Therapist? What should I do? It has been going on for about 6 months.

It probably would be best to see a physician if this has been going on for sometime now.

Hey bud, ED is more common for us older guys and I doubt seriously if you'd be having that diagnosis at your age. Alot of us have some difficulty with "getting off" to oral sex and struggle some as we change towards sexual things rather than only masturbation. Ive got a couple of questions for you. What happened about 6 months ago that changed things? Was there a "failed attempt" at something sexual? Are you a virgin? Prior to 6 months ago were you able to always masturbate and not have problems with erections? How about wet dreams or morning wood, those things happening for you? OK, sorry about so many questions but I'm just trying to see if I can help figure this one out. I will say that once something like this happens....its easy to get so frustrated and that only makes it worse. Hang in there and give us more info...we'll see if we can help!

What happened about 6 months ago that changed things?I can only think of one thing and I didn't do it a lot but I was pe'ing (that exercise stuff that supposedly enlarges your penis). I really didn't do that enough to matter I don't think. Other than that, nothing reallyWas there a "failed attempt" at something sexual?Nope. I got handjobs/head frequently. Then one day I was with my girlfriend and couldn't get it up. Thought, "Oh well, forget it" and then the next day I couldn't get it up again. Ever since (six months give or take) I haven't been able to do anything with girls and can only masterbate on occasion. Are you a virgin? Sure am.Prior to 6 months ago were you able to always masturbate and not have problems with erections? Ya, I was actually a little masterbating fiend. The summer prior to this happening I swear I would masterbate once a day for the whole summer. Not being proud lol, just saying I would go once, sometimes 2 or 3, a day.How about wet dreams or morning wood, those things happening for you?Haven't had a wet dream in God knows, been over 6 months, might even go as far to say a year. That is the thing. I get random erections sometimes. They don't stay long. I haven't been noticing morning wood for a while. The thing is, unless I am excited visually (either by my girl or porn) I have trouble getting it up. I have done experiments to see if I could get up in the shower or with lotion or just straight up masterbating and no good. I haven't lost hope...yet. If 6 months from now it is still happening, who knows.

Hey bud, something did happen 6 months ago...after not being able to get it up...you didn't get satisfied with your girl, the next day you tried again....no success. And since then things haven't been the same. How worried are you about this? How embarassed were you when it didn't respond to her? How worked up do you get when you think you're about to "get something" from a girl and then say no because you're afraid of being embarassed?I'd say all of those things are true, they would be for me. I don't quite understand though why you can't achieve an erection and masturbate successfully all the time, that one baffles me some. Are you in good health? On any medications at all? How about sports, play any? Is there any other stress in your life...parental divorce, recent death or loss of friend/family or even a move to a new school or town? Hang in there with me while I think through some other reasons and get more info.

I am reasonably worried because I am only 17. I honestly wasn't worried at all the first 2 times it happened with that girl. Lol, I actually dumped her after the 2nd time thinking to myself that she just didn't do it for me anymore. I actually tell them up front when I first date them that I am not up for stuff and I only like to do stuff to them so it really hasn't come up to much. It has happened a few times each month but not like an every day thing that annoys me. I really could care less about not getting anything, more upset because all of my girls have said they enjoy doing it because it makes me happy. I am in very good health actually. I was actually a star soccer player (I may sound cocky but I was wanted on every competitive team in my city so I am just being honest) until about a month ago and I still go to the gym 3-4 times a week. I am rarely if ever sick. I am not on any medication except creatine which I know doesn't have any sort of side effect in that sense. Lived in the same town for 8 years, Parents been together for 30, no stresses at all. I don't have a job right now, no school, no nothing. I am as stress free as I have ever been. Hope you can help. I really appreciate this. I will be back tonight at midnight or so. I actually have a date. But like I said, this is greatly appreciated. I have been confused about this for the last 6 months and kind of worried in a sense about why a 17 year would have this. Hopefully I don't and you can find out what is really wrong. Thanks man.

Lance makes some good points. The fact that you're not getting morning wood much now is significant, I think. That and your problems with masturbation suggest that it is more than performane anxiety, and consulting a doctor would be well worthwhile.
Two common causes:
1. Many antidepressants (including the SSRIs, now also often used to treat OCD and other anxiety disorders) decrease libido and can cause erectile dysfunction (and difficulty reaching orgasm). There are some newer ones on the market now that don't have this side-effect.
2. Erectile dysfunction is often the first symptom of diabetes. It's very easy for a doctor to check for that, by a simple urine test.

Hey bud...brag away about your athletic ability! Thats great and you sound like a really cool guy, caring and have alot going for you in life. So many guys your age have family stuff going on that gets in the way and other things that create stress for them. When was your last physical? Did they do blood work and if not...it may be time for an overall check up to rule out things like Diabetes that ineligible mentioned. I'm going to say that alot of this seems like anxiety to me and you're all worked up about things. Lets keep chatting though.

To reply to Ineligible:
1. I don't think that this is a problem because I take no medications.
2. I will have to go to the doctor I suppose. Have a good ol' physical. Yay! lol.
To reply to Lance:
I had some blood work done a few months ago right around when this happened because I got in a car wreck, a cyst opened on my kidney because of it, and they were making sure all was well. Do you think they check for Diabetes on something like that or didn't bother since I was in there for a whole different reason? I suppose it could be because of what happened with that girl those 6 months or so back but I wouldn't think that would affect my masterbating. Maybe I am that stressed about it but when I am by myself doing my thing, lol, I don't think about much else.
