hi, i'm 16 and i am in the International Baccalaureate program which is infamous worldwide for its sleepy students because they pull all-nighters, but i have never really done an "all-nighter" and i never plan to either. i have to wake up at 6am everyday so the latest i ever stay up until is about 12am or in an extremely rare situation 1am, leaving me with as little as 5 hours of sleep. on those days i can barely function through the day and i have enormous bags under my eyes and everyone around me notices it as well.so, this year so far i have made a conscious effort to get a good night's sleep every night with the exception of a few minor deviations that are unavoidable (+/- an hour or so), with my normal bedtime at around 10pm, giving me 8 hours of sleep. however i have noticed that i am still sleepy right when i wake up even with 8 hours of sleep every night and people around me notice how sleepy i appear with bags under my eyes. on weekends i generally only sleep in a couple hours later than on schooldays.it is virtually impossible for me to go to bed at 9pm for more than 1 reason, mostly being that school is out at 2 and i have many hours of homework as well as volunteering and other stuff sometimes.i have gone to many sleep websites for information and i have a cool, dark, quiet sleep room and i try not to do anything such as intense reading before bedtime and i try to get into the light ASAP in the morning.what gives? i have tried to maintain a 10pm bedtime for more than a couple months now and i am still sleepy often! is there anything i can do??edit: oh yeah, a couple more things, i eat late dinners generally, but i don't drink coffee or take any other medicine or herbs for better sleep.thanks for any and all advice!

Some people need more than 8 hours. Perhaps you are one of those people.

i have the same problem, im allllllllways sleepy no matter what, but i figured out that i function better on more lik 6 or 7 hours of sleep than i do on 8 or 9. it might catch up to you at the end of the week and make u exhausted, so catch up a lil on the wkends. this works for me, also eating breakfast for sure will make u feel less sleepy during the day and working out a few times a week or doing sports. for the bags under your eyes i suggest self spa treatment. cucumber slices under the eyes are good!:-D

Does the cucumber really work? I need to try that. I'm like that too. But I've noticed when I sleep in till past noon on weekends, I'm more tired than I am days where I've slept 5 hours and woken up for school. I can't eat breakfast in the morning because I'd usually end up barfing it up or having an upset stomach. My apetite doesn't kick in till around noon.It's way more common than you think, itsonlyme.

i am terrible at sleep i went throgh a very painfull surgery that the doc said that shuould help but it didnt. i get about 5 hours of sleep i take the seditve Ambeian it works great but after a while it starts to wear off it streigth but are you alos on a good matress for me the stiffer is the better i cant use squishy soft ones it would really ruin my back

nah, it was for an exam. I would have spent more hours in a day to study for it, and it was for math.
