ok ive been posting on the adictions bit for a while, if you dont know who i am check out the 'weed' forum. just this very day i was contemplating just WHERE you draw the line of alcoholism. i drink a lot of alcohol, i have 2/3 good nights out which usualy involve about 12 beers and a lot of whiskey or vodka. i drink nearly every night, and while i can take a night off as i please i was just wondering if my current drinking pattern is going to end in disaster. i know i'm a stonner, i can live with that, but alcohol can truly ruin lives and i dont want to be another casualty. if i am drinking too much, do i just try to stop and if i cant do i call AA? do any people on here think i may drink too much? i drink probably about 50/60 units a week (i think thats a UK measurement for 10mls of 100% alcohol, so about 2 units in a pint of bitter) i am a student, so i'm obliged to drink loadsopinions please
-
Alcohol - where do you draw the line
-
I think most people would consider that that level of drinking constitutes a drinking problem.Students really aren't obliged to drink loads, you know.
-
the line is drawn by a credit or debit card across a cd cover
-
thats not the sort of line, but i do it on DVD cases not CD cases. longer that way. as for students not being obliged to drink, that is obviously true, but i have a pretty high alcohol tolerance, and if i want to get drunk i have to drink those sort of amounts. i doubt i'm an alcoholic, i didnt drink last night and i feel fine
-
I don't drink often. When I do drink, I like to get drunk. I can have a good time with a few drinks, but prefer drunk. Everyday seems like a lot to me. I drink maybe 1-10 times a year. I can buy it. I know people who can buy it.
But, thats just from my point of view. I'd rather smoke marijuana then drink. I like to still be on control, but feel good. But, just me. I guess some people can probably do good with drinking alot.
-
ok went to a party last night, and i deliberatley didnt drink and it was shit. got well stonned and drunks are sometimes so annoying, i wanted to feel sorry for them. i did miss being drunk, but i would have probably ended up fucking somebody if i had so i guess its not such a bad idea to be sober sometimes
-
I honestly feel sorry for you that you live like this! I think the 5 or 6 drinks a day you are having would be considered alcoholism! You should honestly seek help in both areas!
-
ok well i didnt drink today or tuesday. i'm pretty sure i'm not an alcoholic, but i sure i'm somehow adicted to pot
-
for me i just stop to the point where i get a dizy and could still function (not dirving -- only and idion would do that) like wach a moive and talk in a conversation. i dont like beer or wine i like the brandys, runs vodkas whiskasys they tase good
-
it depends, if i dont want to be drunk i stop, but usualy i get to the state of 'oh my god, i cant remember'. thats where i draw the line. how the hell can you not like red wine??? its the most amazing drink known to man!!!
-
maybe it is becuae i didt buy the red winte taht costs 100+ dollrs a bottlelist some good ones (ones that you like) then i may see if they are good
-
wooooah i'm a student, i very rarely get wine for more than £6 (about $10). red wine as long as its not TOO bad and from a soft grape will be good, virtualy any merlot is drinkable, but the more you pay the 'older' (longer lasting and richer) the flavour. red wine really is an aquired taste however, i think its universal to hate your first bottle of red

alchol in the US alot of money Especeally in CA and NY mabe other states have very hight sals tax the HIllbilly Redneck States may not be as high.
-
haha, actualy belive it or not i think the UK has the highest alcohol tax appart from iceland, although beer prices vary it usualy costs about £3 ($5) for a bottle of budweiser, pricey!! but the US does have high alcohol prices, well florida does anyway

I have admitted that i have a drinking problem at the young age of 19....it is terrible, it can ruin your life so do not let it.
-
the definition of being an alcaholic is where you drink at least twice or more per month to get a buzz.
-
I quit drinking a long time ago. I see why it's hard to quit now, you don't always want to be drunk but there's just something that draws you to it. You just have to fight the urge and find somethink to do besides drink. And you need to try and avoid places that you can buy it at (which is extremely hard).
-
Wow, you couldn't be more wrong! Twice a month? Are you plain stupid or something.
-
twice a day maybe, but twice a month is obviously wrong! alcoholism is different for different people, so one person could be drunk everynight but not have a problem, somebody else might have a problem from doing that. alcoholism is when you CANT STOP DRINKING for just one day. you HAVE to have a drink. i dont, so i'm not an alcoholic
-
Drinkin is part of a social culture.....however when you can't go without a drink.....then its a problem....oh and when you can't remember what you did the night before and you are wearing someone elses clothes - thats a problem too
