Is adhd hereditary?
-
i think it is because i have adhd and my brother has it but no medication for him and my mom has it but no medication so i think it is well good luck

All mental disorders are generally hereditory
-
Lets put it this way! All ADD-ers I know have been that way since birth. And that means its either hereditary or, it something that happens before birth.

hey, youre comment about everyone you know with ADD has had it since birth- therefore its probably hereditary os not necisarily true! it may be, i have no way of knowing, but i know that i had no symptoms of ADD when i was a child, until the 10th grade, previously i had all As and Bs in my classes, but then in 10th grade my grades began to slip, so i was tested and the results were possitive for ADD. I could have had a mild case when i was younger and then it grew to be a bigger problem as a got older, i dont know, but its not neccisarily heritary!!! -
I think it might be, my step mom has it, and so do all of her kids.

To this anonymous responder: I hope you are not a doctor because that is the most assinine response I have ever heard! No, because something is present at birth does not mean it is hereditary. Cleft palates are present at birth and are not hereditary. Diabetes is hereditary and symptoms of that can not show up until someones 60's. You need to educate yourself and NOT give answers you are not sure of until you do. Hopefully people know not to take advise from an internet web site! Sheesh!

Hopefully people know not to take advise from an internet web site!People DO have to check their resourses before taking ANYONE'S advice, internet, friends, even family included, but your comment makes no sense since people come here for advice.

yes it is hereditary...
however when people in your family have things that often run on the same spectrum such as ocd, add, autism, eating disorders, etc it makes you more likely to have it...
for example:
my mother has ADD, i have ADD and i have a sister with OCD -
if you would remember your highschool biology classes, just cuz your family doesnt show signs doesnt mean they arent carrying the gene. you cant contract add from anywhere, maybe from a head injury but i doubt it
