I used to have very bad acne until it was cured by some medication which I only needed to take for 8 months. I had what is called cystic acne which is more severe than normal teenage acne (where you can get cysts from time to time and pimples with more than one head). I got a referal to see a dermatologist (a doctor who specialises in skin disorders) and he prescribed to me accutane (or roaccutane as its known in some places). I took it for 8 months and I have not had one pimple even for over a year. The way the drug works is by permanently shrinking the sebatious glands in the skin (these glands produce skin and hair oil). Therefore your skin no longer produces an above average amount of oil, rather just a normal amount. The active ingredient in roaccutane is isotretinoin which is related to Vitamin A.The common side effects of the drug are:* dry eyes* dry skin* dry lips* dry noseuncommon side effects can happen and the main one is:* depression* suicideWhile taking the drug you cannot shower with soap, you must use a non-soap cleanser because the soap will cause your skin to crack. So if you think your acne is so bad and think you would benefit from this drug, see a dermatologist. You may need a referal from your doctor to see one.

Oh this is not spam. I am just sharing it because of the improvement in my life since I took it. I have not had one pimple for ages. You have no idea unless you have had really bad acne, and I am sure those who do have really bad acne are willing to try anything.
Oh and I forgot one thing, if you do start taking this drug, you will have to have blood tests every 4 - 6 weeks so they can monitor your liver functions and cholestarol. Sometimes this drug can cause liver damage but this can be stopped with the blood tests.
Oh and if you're pregnant, you cant take the drug because it will cause birth defects on the unborn baby.

Oh there are a lot of side effects. It can work wonders in some people, but can truly damage other people. I took it back when I was 14 and ended up in the hospital for possible kidney damage. I had my weekly blood test and the doctor was so startled by the results he called my house up at 11:00 at night informing me to get to the hospital for further tests right away. My cholesterol shot up to 387 while my triglycerides (sp?) soared to over 1200.

It worked for me and for that I am really greatful.
Although by the end, I was really fedup with the side effects. I was losing my hair, my lips were so dry and cracked. Actually one of my liver enzymes went up a little above average.

A doc wanted to put me on accutane at one time, but I wasn't up for all the side affects. I've stuck to less extreme oral medications and everything is going great.
