Let me add that in addition to my war post above, I agree largely with Sabryn's economic analysis as well. The deficit is embarrassing, and Cheney's comment that "the deficit doesn't matter" is fantasy at best, and a knowing contradiction of settled principles of macroeconomics at worst. Yes, the downswing from 2001-recent times was not attributable to Bush's policy, but the deficit remains, and it's no joke.

A call to political action
-
Sexpert, You should vote Nader LoL. I'm probably going to vote because in March im 18 and i can vote in the next election. I will probably end up voting Kerry. After seeing what bush did with his presidency. Plus im from an area thats primarily democrat, NY. And the parental units are democrats lol

I didn't mean to imply you were pinning the Republicans. Here in Western and Northern Texas (I split time between due to academic and familial obligations) gas prices have fluctuated very little over the past year. The last time gas prices skyrocketed was a whopping ( ) 20 cents in 2002. We stay around $1.55-$1.61 almost consistently. Now to answer the "bad man" question. We all know that politics creates strange bedfellows. Against GB, in the Revolution, the "Colonies" (trying to be politically correct for our Internat'l audience, no malice intended), the French supported us, where as only 12-17 years prior we helped the Brits beat the French in the French-Indian War. Well, in 1812, the British backed up US forces in the War of 1812. My point here is that based on your situation you have certain friends that must be held on to.In the '70s and '80s the US and Russia were at bitter odds with each other and in any country that had probs with the USSR, we were their to help. Now, understandibly, those preses from the late 60s to early 90s didn't exactly think about the future of the country. Now that shit has come back and f*cked us in the ass with scuds and RPGs.Despite, having losses in Iraq, people tend to ignore the true numbers and what the troops are saying. I am friends with a Lt. Col. in the USMC and he said the people of Iraq are extremely happy. He said that the minority is the one that has a prob. w/ US involvement. This leads me on to my next point. We have a liberal media, its hard to spin it any other way other than they're "protecting the voice of the minority", to that I say bull shit, but that's another issue. Now with a liberal media and a conservative pres, honestly and nobody can really dispute this, that both will spin they're views based on how they need it. That's the problem with not being in the war ourselves. We can really only rely on those who are there. Media says too many lives are lost in everyday attacks, Congress says there are few. My troop friends say that the conditions are no wher near as bad as they are protrayed on TV. Of course they might be in a different place.

You'll barely be able to vote with the 6 month rule and all. I didn't get to vote in the last election. This is my first major election. I got to vote in a smaller state senate election, so I'm pumped.
-
Pumped to vote, indeed! I'm glad that political apathy doesn't have this nation by a complete stranglehold yet. We'll likely be voting for different candidates, but it's always good to hear principled arguments from both sides.
-
That's what makes America great!!!At least Kerry and Bush are civil toward each other and act like gentlemen, unlike other past elections (none in particular)
-
Jeez, i dont know why but im loving this thread. Maybe since i started taking AP Gov + Politics and AP Macro .
-
I did too. It's always fun actually being able to apply the knowledge we learn.Of course at my University we're required to take a public speaking course...I will never, ever need that info, ever again.A knowledge of gov't and econ. will always make you a better person and always more knowledgable and able to make better decisions.
-
I agree, even though I'm afraid that all of this agreeing is risking making this thread into a lovefest
-
ok...hmmmm...lets spice it up...
My presidential candidate can beat up your presidentital candidate anytime.
-
Kerry punched Bush in the nose and now bush is whining like a baby to his mom
-
Kerry tripped and skinned his knee, now he's gone to hump a tree ( Where'd that come from??? )
-
I see this thread has boomed since the 15 hours i haven't looked at anything. lol.
Being the lazy bum a I am, I didn't read through. So I just gotta say one thing:
Flip a coin-
If its heads, vote big headed George Bush
If its tails, vote high tail it and run Kerry
If it lands on its saide, vote nader -
alright, websex, I like the way you think! Everyone, prepare your coins!
-
You might also just barely press in the ballot for each candidate and let fate determine which is counted as a hanging chad and which is not.
-
good idea! wait, absentee ballots don't have chads. darn!
-
lol. Floridians can be funny.
-
would it have been such a big deal if the governor (it was the governor, right?) hadn't been related to Bush? What do you guys think?
-
I think the big deal was they couldn't get the dang count straight. In actuality, Gore won that election, but since Florida couldn't get things right and it was taking so long it was decided to just give the presidency to Bush.
-
Bush did WIN Florida, it was never more than 500 or less than 350, but Bush won Florida.
