How effective are condoms?
-
Other than not have sex or be on some type of birth control, the condom is about the most effective method of contraception. However, it is not 100% safe and so it is advised to couple them with another means of birth control. While the pill, patch and shot may have higher success rates with regard to contraception, the condom is the best method to prevent spread of STI's and thus should always be used unless you are in a monogamous relationship and both parties can be trusted not to cheat.

Condoms are about 98% effective. They are very effective but just becareful. Know that they can break or tear or slip off, so its best to be on BC also. It is good that he pulls out before he cums, but just be careful.

condoms have a fairly well proven track record. If used properly with no incidents such as brakage or slipping off, their effectivness is high. The addition of contraceptive foam, however, increases their statistical effectiveness. As I remember, condoms & foam = the pill = IUD = over 99% effective. only abstenance is 100%... but who the hell wants to abstain?! but, as stated, only condoms are a defence for STDs

EffectivenessOf 100 women whose partners use condoms, about 15 will become pregnant during the first year of typical use.* Only two women will become pregnant with perfect use.** More protection against pregnancy is possible if condoms are used with a spermicide foam, cream, jelly, suppository, or film. *Typical use refers to failure rates when use is not consistent or always correct.**Perfect use refers to failure rates for those whose use is consistent and always correct. http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/birth-control/condom.htm

I disagree!I got my nuts cut, I waited till I was certified all juice and no seeds, and I fill her up on a regular basis,no pregnant woman. I refuse to abstain, but its 100% effective. now keep in mind a clamp or a cut and stitch can always come undone but they pulled my tubes out, cut an inch form each one then burned both ends closed. No rubbers, no babies.Of course I already had kids, and Im with only one partner, if I was with more than a single girl Id still be using rubbers on top of a vasectomy just because of disease.

Pregnancy and the transmission of STI's are still possible while using condoms. If there are herpes lesions, or genital warts, at the base of the penis, or the labias of the vaginal opening, those areas are not protected by a condom and all you need is skin 2 skin contact to get em. If a condom is made of animal product, the pores are very large and stuff stil gets through.

Quote: If a condom is made of animal product, the pores are very large and stuff still gets through. Good point. I know that latex condoms protect against STI's, but for those with a latex allergy, have the polyurethane condoms been proven effective?
-
Yes, they rank #2, and animal ones are last.
