I'm not sure if this fits in here, but how easy is it to get addicted to ciggarettes. I know that it is different for each person but in general, does it take a few weeks of smoking every day, or just one week? Also, to all the smokers (who should be the people who can answer the above question) why did you start smoking? I have smoked once and the taste wasn't too great and it didn't feel good either. I don't understand why people would do this more than once.

Smoking....
-
It depends. Some people smoke one and can't stop. Some people smoke 100 and just set them down. It really depends. You just better off not trying it in the first place. Why? hmm.. Got me. Just seemed like a good idea at the time. I'm on and off tho. Sometimes I smoke, sometimes I don't. Really no set time frame.

I started whan I was about 25, socially. It never bacame a full fledged habit though. I can take it or leave it. I read somewhere that if you start smoking in your teens, you can become seriously hooked on it. Whereas, if you start later on in life, your addiction is not strong and is much easier to stop. Take it from me, you are better off without it. Don't even start.

I started when I was about 9 or 10 and it was because my friends were doing it. Also because I thought by smoking I was being rebelous(ms?) and I thought I'd look cool. Then it became more of a stress reliever, my own way of "finding an exscape" Now I'm 18 and I'm trying really really hard to quit. I used to love it until I tried quiting a couple of months ago. Now I hate the taste, I hate the smell, it's a really gross habbit. I wish I had never picked it up, and I hope you don't either, because believe me it's not worth it. I used to smoke Marlboro full flavor, then I moved to mediums, lights and now I'm sitting here smoking an ultra light while I'm writing this. There is no diffrence between a full flavor and an ultra light because you're still putting Carbon Monoxide in your lungs. I want to quit so badly, I just don't know how. :frowning:

I never have any intention to smoke, its just that a few of my friends do and when I tell them that they should quit they keep telling me that its not as easy as just stopping, which I know.I just want to understand them better and their habit.
-
Have you tryed gums or patches? Maybe go to some sort of city quit smoking program? Isn't their a number? 1-800-No-Butts? or something like that.
-
i used to smoke cigarettes occasionally.. but i will NEVER touch one ever again...smoking kills you.. my uncle has been smoking for like.. ever.. and they found a tumour in his prostate.. and they thought it might be cancerous.. and those few days that they were waiting for results i was a mess.. all because of smoking.. thank god it wasnt cancer though..Youre better off without it.. need a habit? Chew Gum! Its cheaper

I found this site for this sole purpose (discussing smoking) so here goes:Whenever I smoke I get dizzy. WHY?? Nobody I know who smokes can tell me. I heard it was a smooth muscle relaxer(ant?) and I was wondering if it just relaxes the smooth muscles in my legs enough to slow down the blood comming back up? It's kinda wierd. And yes I'm trying to stop and the reason I have only noticed it recently is because I have always been too inebriated while smoking to notice it before (and I'm trying to stop that too).Any comments would be appreciated.

First time I smoked was at a friends. Nobody pressured me though. We ALWAYS joke about peer pressure, cause it doesnt affect us one bit. I was curious and one day I just asked him for a cigarette.
Eh it was ok. Nothing special.
Dont make it a habit of smoking though, it'll \*\*\*\* you up.
I smoke like every blue moon(rare occasions). -
I've tried the patches and the gum, and they really didn't help much. Just made me very bitchy ^_^ And I'm not at my best when I'm bitchy. But I'm trying, I've cut down big time compared to what I was. Thats still no excuse, but I am trying.
-
Well, good luck to you Katie and to all of you who are trying to quit
-
don't try to quit unless you REALLY want to. and i mean REALLY. otherwise, nothing will help you. you just have to be really willing to quit, that's it.
-
both my parents smoke and i was always against it, but my friend offered me 1, no pressure to have it, but i took it. i'm not hooked and i only smoke very occasionlly. my first was like 5months ago and i've had like 6 since. Is it even possible not to get addicted, coz i'm not? why do sum people get addicted and others dont? wierd!!
-
This is a stupid question. There reason you aren't hooked is because yuo have only smoked 6 over five months. It will take a hell lot more than that!
-
I smoked a bit when I was 14. I smoked a cig everyday. I never got hooked. I stopped a month later. I was just like..wow...this is my addiction? But I am so addicted to junk food!
-
Yeah, but that junk food probably gave you those thighs that drive your BF wild!
-
lol. Too much junk in the trunk! I think sexual confidence is sexy but arrogance is just blah. As Buddha says...not too much not too little.

or as a great man once said:
hmmm.... dohnuts.... *drool

I'm assuming you're refering to Hommer Simpson (my hero). As far as smoking goes, it sucks ass and I hope no one decides to pick up on the habbit because it's not easy to kick pluse you're always gonna smell like smoke no matter how much mints you eat and how much perfume you wear. Terrible stuff. Plus there you can develope lung cancer, heart disease, emphysema, and it can complicate pregnancy (which I suggest that you should never smoke while your pregnant). I want to quit, been trying to since the doctors told my Mum that she could possibily have lung cancer, but we don't know for sure if she does or not. They say she does, they say she doesn't, they say it could just be a cold in her chest, blah blah blah, all I know is I don't want to lose my Mum. I mean, shes always supposed to be around because how am I supposed to go to her when I need help with something and shes not there? I don't want to lose my Mum because a stupid cigarett that she puffs on, thats just not fair.
-
Katie Lou - I am sooo sorry to hear that your mum is unwell - my mum had breast cancer a few years back and its SO scary, like you said your mum should always be there! Luckily it turned out well and she has been clear since, I hope everything turns out well with your mum too - keep us posted hon hugs
