Hi guys! I'm new here. I'm a 33 yo male and have been working out for about 6 mos now. My current routine is:Fri: Bench, preacher curls, sustained curls, shoulder, latsSat: Lower body (squat, calves, hams)Sun: Push ups (up to 60 a set), shadow boxing, diamond pushups (up to 30 a set)Then, Mon, Wed, Fri, I work on the heavy bagMy goal is lean muscle, a bit more mass, and, of course, punching ability. As far as mass, am I taking it too slow to see results? I supplement with whey protein isolate.Any input from you vets?

Will I get results if...

why aren't you taking a day break between each major workout. It was my belief that the day in between workouts is when the muscle grows b/c it is healing, but if you do not rest it does not have a chance.

Thanks for replying! Also, I've been a Metallica fan since Kill 'em all. Hetfield inspired me to play. My fav Metal band is Slayer, though.Anyway, I guess the deal is that I have 2 kids, and when I get home from the office, it's a no go. I can only hit the bag for a bit in the morn.I guess my thinking was the fact that I was working different areas over the weekend was giving the other areas the rest they needed (and perhaps I'm ignorant). Here is a question: If, say, I do a major upper body workout a week, rest, then do lower, rest, yada yada, am I going to get results? I work out close to my max each time. Will, say, one heavy chest workout a week give me any results at all, in other words? Do I need to do two major chest workouts a week or more to obtain the results I want (a large, strong chest)?

yes you will get results. I did the same thing when i was in highschool football. I found that doing this brought me my biggest gains. Anyone correct if i am wrong, but building muscle is the process of tearing the muscles and then having the rebuild, that is what makes you stronger (like if you break a bone it comeback stronger). So getting that rest day lets your mucles, essentially, heal. Just like antyhing else it will take time, but you will see results in 3-4 weeks.

OK, I like that answer! I think I will do my upper today, lower on on Sun. Then I will do light pushups and punch as often as I can (up to three a week). I was always a small framed guy (in highschool I weighed 125 pounds at 5' 10", I now weigh in at 175 with around 25% fat, and am considerably stronger. My goal now is to use that as a base board to finally acheive the results I want now that I have a good bench and weight set. Thanks! Up the Irons! (Did I mention I love maiden, too? They are great during a workout!)Have an AWESOME weekend.-S

I looked through that fairly thoroughly; my first comment is: Dude, you're STRONG. Your routine seems to work. Based on genetics alone, I may not reach your strength, but I saved your routine off and am going to modify it for my specific needs. Thanks again!-SUp the Irons
