Hi guys, could you guys rate my meals of a health scale of 1-10? thanks... ill begin now:breakfast: pizzapop or a sandwich with ham or w/e. Glass of milk.lunch: sandwich with beef patty/ham/chicken. Water BottleDinner: White rice with 1 serving of veggys, shrimp (i eat alot), and chicken or beef or some type of meat. Glass of w/e.Snacks: cereal sometimes/ popcorn/ ice cream/ Cookies/ Potato chips.I dont drink soda...Anyways whats the healthy level for my meals? And what should I eat instead? Thanks.

You eat healthier than me..so..lol. However what I learned is so far I think its more of what condiments you add in your food that is the bigger deal. Oh yea, don't eat the fat lol, less salt is always better. Now, lets not forget the nutrients!Uhm. Pizza pop? what is that... I think you eat very healthy. Except potato chips and cookies. Maybe instead have some crackers and veggie chips..those..weird exotic chips. They are like potato chips..but not that great! lol. I eat sooo much...thank god for my fast metabolism

Anyways, on the topic of how you eat. It's good that you don't eat too much junky food, and not drinking pop is great because it's truly not good for us, but try eating some more vegetables. It sounds like you eat some, but not nearly enough. I think the recommended amount is 5-10 servings. I'm not sure the serving sizes of meat that you eat, but you don't need quite as much as you eat (unless you're trying to build muscle through weightlifting in which case you should be trying to eat what you eat as well as more vegetables). Try replacing some of that instead with more vegetables, especially ones that are green and leafy (eg. iceberg lettuce is awful, and it's not dark green, but broccoli is awesome for nutritional value). Try to drink one more glass of milk a day (you said you drink only one). Overall your diet is pretty good, except for the lack of fruit and vegetables. Maybe you could substitute some of your snacks with a banana, apple, or whatever you like.

that diet is fairly healthy, but a little high in the saturated meats. I know i have a slightly biased opinion (being lacto-vegitarian), but i would try and cut down on some of the meats.

More meat.... why? He gets meat with every meal of the day. You only really need 2-3 servings of meat or alternatives a day. Look at the palm of your hand, the size of your palm is about the equivalent amount of meat that you need to get in a day. Increasing that a bit isn't a bad thing for anyone who actually needs the protein (athletes, anyone lifting weights for muscle gain, etc.) but your body doesn't use any more protein/iron (the main things you need from meat or alternative sources) if you're not. Even people who do increase the protein in their diets can't use more than about 70-120g (varies with each person, but don't take this exact value as it was off the top of my head and not directly from a source) due to the fact that the body cannot process more than that in a day. Alot of the extra isn't used anyways and ends up getting wasted. The biggest concern with eating too much meat (seafood - like shrimp for example - is an exception) is the unhealthy levels of saturated fats that a person can get in their diet. It's large amounts of saturated fats in our diets that contribute to the health problems that so many obese north americans seem to have. It's not the fat on the outside that you can calculate in pounds - the stuff people seem to worry so much about - but the cholesterol formed from the saturated fats (leading source of cholesterol in our bodies) that causes things like heart attacks and strokes. The problem is that the people who are overweight generally eat too many saturated fats (they do also cause weight gain just like unsaturated), but if they lose weight they suddenly feel that they're a whole lot healthier. It's true, losing excess weight is generally good, but it doesn't completely lower your cholesterol levels and immediately fix years of damage to the arteries around your heart.If you think he needs more meat, then I want to find out where you found out what the definition of eating healthy is. I'm not vegetarian, but I know what I get from the foods I eat. I just did a search, and found the Canada food guide (first google result when typing in "food guide"). How are the labels in the US concerning nutrional value? All packaged foods here have fairly in depth nutrional labels and I'm just wondering how strict the US's guidelines are for making companies label the nutrional value of foods. We don't have nutrional labels for cuts of steak, fish, or anything that's cut and packaged at a store in the deli section, but most other things do.Things that are on the labels are: calories, protein, fat (usually, but not always, including the amounts of saturated, monounsaturated, polyunsaturated, omega-3, etc.), carbohydrates (often separating into sugars, starches, fiber, etc.), and depending upon the food a long or short list of vitamins/minerals. And I still don't understand what AverageJoe meant by him eating so weird. I don't see what's weird about his diet at all.
