ok thanks i will try that when i go over on that computer next week
-
Please help me with my massive computer problems!!
-
would it work if i used a regular windows 98 disk (not second edition) to repair the comp...or would that not work???
-
Use the OS disk that is installed on your computer. If you have windows 98 installed, then it is preferable that you use a 98 disk. If it's windows 98se, then use a windows 98se disk.

reinstall windows
-
noooooooooooooo!!!!Just tell me what to remove...
-
If your computer has been innundated with spyware, adware, trojans, viruses.... sometimes there is no recovery. You just need to bite the bullet and reformat.
-
dang it..well i guess i might just have to...my adaware just found like 400 things...
-
SDP hit the nail on the head. Let's say you get a virus and you quarantine it. Even though the virus does no further damage, the damage that is already done isn't fixed.
-
yea yea yea...well i might have to reformat next week...forgot to grab my win98se from other house
-
Holy Finger-Licking Batman, your virus is putting fucked up smileys all over your post!!!!Colonel, permission to hijack your thread, sir!
-
lol
-
My comp keeps erasing everything then makes me reinstall windows...its done this 2 times in 2 weeks.....any ideas...the last time it happened...was after i ran spybot search-and-destroy
-
if you are completely rebuilding your drive and it still kaks on you, the drive is probably done. Also, if your motherboard is about 5 years old, you might want to look at this leaky caps I had to replace a motherboard due to this
-
Omigod, my caps are leaking...or locking. Will I be able to have children? If your PC is five years old (and you're running Win98!), it's time for a new PC. It'll probably be cheaper to get a discount desktop PC than to try to fix the old one. Keep your keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc. if they suit you. You'll be a lot happier with a new one...you might even get a warranty.
-
the replacement MB cost me $90. Actually it was a year old so maybe I should have said bought in 2002 or 2003 (less than 5 years old obviously)
-
Like the others have mentioned, if you have reinstalled a fresh copy of Windows and this happened again, you definitely have a hardware problem. Unfortunately, it's hard to tell whether it is the MB or the hard drive. If you want to repair, I'd start with the hard drive. If that's not it then a new MB is in store, and you'll have extra disk storage space.
-
If you're handy with the screwdriver, a new motherboard and hard disk is an economical way to go. But your case needs to fit current (standard) motherboards, your power supply needs to be up to snuff, support can be a problem (if you need it), etc.Building your own machine and getting the OS and drivers and accessories to all work can be a real educational experience.
