My boyfriend recently told me that he had molluscum. He explained that his doctor told him that it was caused by friction. This really didnt make sense to me, considering we have been sexually active for quite some time, and he's just getting them now. When confronted with this idea, he said that he had gotten them after the first few times we were together. I have never noticed them on myself. My question - is he full of shit? Or can molluscum be caused by not only sexual contact, but also friction endured during intercourse? Any info. would be great. Thanks!

Molluscum

Well the friction will have no effect unless the bacteria that causes molluscum is there. So friction or not, the molluscum was already present on one of you two.

Friction cannot cause molluscum. It's a virus, the pox virus to be exact. I had it on my leg and caught it from my female roommate. Unless he just meant skin to skin contact in general... Molluscum is not really an std. It's most commonly found in children. It's spread by skin to skin contact though, and when adults pass it to each other on their genitals, that's when it's considered an std.

so would this be a lasting "std"???I dont have it, but i am just wondering for the record...

Lasting, as in can't get rid of it? No, it can be treated.

It's a pox virus... It goes away like chicken pox does. The actual sores are nothing like chicken pox though. They are little bumps that can vary in appearance. Some are round, flat with a little "dent" in the middle or some may look like a pimple. They all have very hard centers (kinda like a black head) that when removed, bleed pretty badly and then the sore goes away quickly. A doctor may remove the centers or do nothing at all. It will go away eventually on it's own doing nothing, but it will take a lot longer. A doctor may also treat the sores with an acid or freeze them, or prescribe a cream for you to apply. When I had it I dug the centers out myself, but you have to be careful because you can spread it. I washed the area before I started, removed the centers, washed the area when I was done, and then scrubbed my hands and under my fingernails super good. They went away almost immediately. However, mine were on my leg, not my genitals...
