I am going in for surgery next week to get a 14 and 1/2 inch titanium rod taken out of my leg from when I broke my femur in half last year snowboarding...When I went in last week for a "pre-surgery" meeting, my surgen told me that when they take the rod out, it could actually rebreak my leg...Is this verry common???

Question about a femur surgery
-
im pretty sure it is because the bone fills into the places where there are open gaps and the rod is wider in a few spots than others and it could crack from the pressure
-
I know the rod is very common form of treatment for broken leg bones, but if it is that likely that it will re-break the leg. Then why do doctors use that method?
-
i think he is just an *ss that wanted to try and scare me lol
-
They can't keep the rod in your leg?
-
no...they have to take it out because when I get older, if i break it again, even if its a small crack and I somehow bend the rod, they will have to completely rebreak my leg to take the rod out oh well...
