Actually she is my half-cousin. She is my Grandpa's sisters grandaughter.

In the UK (and much of the rest of the world), a cousin is a distant enough relation for most people not to worry about it, but in the US a cousin is considered too close. Anyway the distance suggests there's not much future in the relationship. In time, the infatuation will go away. I know it doesn't seem like it, but it will. It's just a matter of waiting.

Im from the UK but i think that getting with your cousin is disgusting, its only legal in the UK.
-
unsupervised - hon you have SUCH a way with words
-
A cousin is a family member - a blood relative. Which makes it incest, which makes it definitely WRONG IMO.
-
But so is a second cousin, and a third, and a fourth . . .
-
get over it, unless your cuz is your only chance at gettin sum
-
It most likely is....its sad

In reply to: But so is a second cousin, and a third, and a fourth . . . Yeah, and you shouldn't mess around with them either! Sheesh, there's enough people on this planet to choose from - why mess around with family members?!?
-
In reply to:Yeah, and you shouldn't mess around with them either! As was mentioned in a parallel thread, cousin marriage is very common in some areas (e.g., Pakistan and other Islamic countries).Even in the West, often the first person of the opposite (or "appropriate") sex that someone encounters in a non-casual way (i.e., spends time with outside of school) is a relative. Sexual attraction in this case is pretty natural. In reply to:Sheesh, there's enough people on this planet to choose fromNot always true. Do you tell someone in a poor rural village with ties to his family's land to just get in his SUV and hang out in bars in "the big city" and find some genetically random person to hook up with? And a lot of marriages are still arranged. It's interesting how few generations you have to go back in order to find common relatives with most people in the area in which you live (unless you're an immigrant). Do the math...you'll be surprised. Now, don't interpret this as saying, "First cousin, cool, go for it!" I'm just trying to go beyond "don't do it, it's bad!"

If you believe in the African Migration theory, then man evolved and migrated out of one continent. If you believe this, it is safe to say that in order for the human population to grow, these "ancient" people must have interbreed with one another (including blood relatives). Therefore, if you don't believe that you are allowed to marry your third, fourth, ... and so on cousin, you are isolating your potential partners down to, say, zero. Everyone in the world is blood related to some extent, at least if you follow this theory, as I do. As for my belief on the thread starter's dilemma, I personally do not feel that they should pursue a relationship with their cousin. Since many families are closely knit, this could cause potential tension between the other members of the family, and ultimately cut ties between them. Otherwise, incest is the exact same thing as not incest in terms of "consequence" biologically. There are no after effects of incest (a popular misconception being that incest produces mutated offspring).

But being with your cousin can have social consequences, depending on your culture, although it doesn't mean it can't be or hasn't been done. As I said, I know a Pakistani guy (who's quite Westernized) who's married to his first cousin...and it was an arranged marriage. But they're very happy. He lives in Texas....I doubt that he tells everyone he meets that he's marred to his cousin. As you can see here, the reception would not always be positive.

Yeah, I realize all that. However, it has been proven that inbreeding can cause genetic birth defects. Societies that have the most inbreeding, including first cousin marriage, have the highest rates of birth defects and related genetic health problems. Same goes with pure bred animals who are inbred. Seems to me, its nature's way or God's way (or whatever your belief is) of saying inbreeding isn't good!

In reply to:inbreeding can cause genetic birth defectsThe question is, what is the actual (statistical risk) of various types of cousin breeding? There's also the risk that breathing LA or NYC air can cause genetic defects in offspring. Should we ask everyone to leave the cities? So if there are two cousins, and there's no chance of pregnancy (let's say one or both are sterile), then is it OK if they have sexual intercourse? Also, this post is in the masturbation forum. Is it OK if they masturbate together? And if two cousins have sex resulting in pregnancy, do you suggest an abortion? In any case, I don't think the original poster was planning to have kids with his cousin.
