Hello I am 17(soon to be 18), and am soon going to become sexually active soon however I don't really know much about Herpes. Do people know if they have them at age 17/18, and can you tell if people have them?. I don't really want to contract the disease so could someone please brief me up on it and any tips to avoid it would be helpful.
Thanks.

Question about Herpes

condoms, condoms, and more condoms...or...no sex, it would probably be a good idea to have the person, although a little personally invasive, to get themself checked out, before you have sex.

You can't tell if someone has it by looking at them, unless they're suffering from an outbreak. Condoms are your best bet, but even those aren't guaranteed.

You can have it at any age, and you can catch it even if there is no visible sign of an outbreak. Condoms are your best bet.

condoms are better than nothing, but you can still get herpes. people often have it on areas not covered by a condom. and, you can get oral herpes (hsv1) on your genitals via oral sex.
