I had to go to jury duty this week. I thought I beleived in our system here in the US, but I cowed out of it. I understand the "innocent until proven guilty" ideals of our legal system, but because of some of my recent problems in life, with the ex and with some of what he put me through, I bailed out of my civic duty..I had to ask to be excused because I could not have sat on the jury and been fair. I know what it took to even get the DA to bring a case, and I KNOW that my ex has wronged my family again, but do not have enough evidence for the DA to bring a case....Sadly, I am arguing with Innocent until proven guilty because of it. It took SO much evidence to bring my cases... I felt that if I sat on the jury, I would assume that the guy was guilty, because of my experience...I feel like such a loser right now...a bad American..

Jury Duty *sigh*

In reply to:I feel like such a loser right now...a bad American. Not at all. If you realize that you can't be "objective" (the way the courts define it) now, then it was very wise of you to opt out. At some point in the future, when everything settles, you can fulfill your duty.
-
no, you are a good citisen because you admitted your bias in the name of a fair trial. Your consence is rare.damn good move!I am very happy with you!
-
I should be on jury duty. I can tell if someone's guilty just by looking at em
-
I would be happy if I got out of it fairly!
-
I did jury duty once and was very upset that I never got called up out of the pool. A week's worth of waiting for nothing.

In reply to: I can tell if someone's guilty just by looking at em And I introduce to you... the Amazing Kreskin
-
I was the last person picked out of the pool, and I wound up on a 5-week-long medical malpratice trial.
-
I have to agree with Unsuper Jen, admitting you felt that way and stepping back was far better than doin it cos you felt you had to and maybe coming to the wrong conclusion.....hugs
-
Jury duty, ha ha, how American!
-
Awe, thanks guys...I just never thought that I was SO judgemental until that moment...I hope I can get over it..I do want to serve on a jury, but your right...I can't be there if I can't be fair.
-
In reply to: Jury duty, ha ha, how American we have it here too. Unlike Ireland where they throw suspects in the lake to see if they float
-
Was PepsiChaser drafted for a witch trial? I used to live near ground zero of all that in the U.S., north of Boston.
-
lol! you caught the referance
-
If you weigh them down with rocks and they float, they're innocent.
By the way, she turned me into a newt.
