A while back i posted on here about how i am irregular with my periods so i have been going to the gyno doctor over a period of about 6 mo. Finally about a month ago he told me and my mom i have PCOS (Polycystic ovarian Syndrome) it is tons of small cysts on my ovaries. Now i am only 17 so i thought this was weird. I feel relieved i have an answer to my irregularity. But have any of you heard of this or have this disease? it causes obeseness, infertility, moodiness, depression, increased growth of hair on the face, chest, stomach, back, thumbs, or toes, sleep apnea;excessive snoring and breathing stops at times while asleep, which i have all of these....except infertility cause i'm not trying to get pregnant lol....does anyone have any info about this from experience or anything?

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

Yeah I've heard of it. More and more women have it these days. Most likely your doctor will put you on birth control.

I have the same thing. I was diagnosed about a year ago now, and started on medication, as it CAN be a precursor for diabetes. I had an internal scan, tests n stuff, the condition can be controled, I hadn't had a period for 7 months, and taking the medication eventually got me back on track.

yeah, i didn't have a period in over a year, so they put me on birth control and i finally had a period, i stopped about 3 days ago, boy was it a gusher (sorry for the crudeness) my mom says i am way more mellow and not as moody. she is definitly grateful lol, so am i

Hi There,
I'm 19 and I was diagnosed with the same problem. Some of the things you mentioned are considered to be "symptoms" of the syndrome and aren't actually caused by the syndrome itself. However, since they are unsure of what causes this syndrome, you may or may not have to have any of those symptoms to be diagnosed with PCOS. This is a website about the syndrome http://www.pcosupport.org/ . The only real issue with PCOS is that you may not be able to conceive easily (not saying you should use the proper protection), and that your periods will either be non-existant or very irregular. Birth Control can regulate your period even with PCOS.You're not alone!

i was just saying i have all those symptoms. i have already been diagnosed with the disease by my gynocologist. i am taking 2 meds for it birth control and metformin. i heard obesity can have something to do with the cause but the disease causes obesity and the obesity aggravates the disease so its a vicious circle. Thank you for your reply

No problem, if you have any more questions fire away.. I did lots of research..

I am also taking Metformin, and have found that one of the 'side effect' is not wanting chocolate, decrease in appetite, and weight loss YAY  so every cloud DOES have a silver lining !
-
thats funny cause i eat chocolate more than eva....choc chips outta bag= yum yum lol. but i do have a decrease in my appetite and the doc said that one of the side effects of the drug is diahrea or looser bms. i do find that i get nauseated all of the time from the bc. sometimes i feel like throwing up more often than before pcos. i hate the feeling of having to throw up ....anyway thank you guys for the replies, usually i don't get many replies to my posts lol

Aww hon, I would hate to have the 'throwing up' feelings, luckily i havn't felt that, my doc said to take the metformin with food, to try and stop the nausea, how do you take yours?hugs
-
its not the metformin thats doing it, i think its the birth control, i take both with food but i guess the birth control is making me nauseated. i take birth control so i could finally have a period. i hadn't had one for over a year, then i finally had one about 3 weeks ago and whoa, i won't even go into detail but it was a heavy one. also i don't take the birth control (Yasmin btw) for what it is usually prescribed for, just for the irregular periods (im a virgin).......
