I got back from Costa Rica on 3/13, while I was there I had sex with a hooker (I know, very stupid)and the condom broke. Not sure if it is related but since around that time I 've had a real low grade rash on one side of my groin, right in the skin crease. It may be jock itch cause it was hot as hell and I did get chafed a bit. I'm married and worried as to what to do. THere are no bumps or open sores just a little rash that is still hanging in there. It smells a bit funky and skin peels a little. I've been powdering it liberally. Does it sound like a STD? Any advice is appreciated!!

Help! Itchy rash that I'm afraid to see a Dr. re.

It sounds like a fungal infection, which anyone can get in their groin. Get some anti-fungal cream (cream for tinea) from a pharmacy and try it out for a week. If it works, keep using it for two weeks after the rash disappears to make sure it doesn't come back.

I hope you're married to that same hooker.

Hooker, what hooker?

Almost definitely jock itch - the symptoms you describe match it perfectly. You're lucky that's all it is - you could really catch some nasty stuff from a prostitute. I hope this was a lesson to you: condoms do break, and they do NOT work 100% of the time. If you still want to sleep around with different women, you shouldn't be married then. Either get a divorce and screw all the hookers you want until your dick falls off, or stay married but be true to your wife. It's not fair to her, and the danger is real. What if you catch AIDS from one of these hookers with a broken condom, and then pass it on to your wife unknowingly? How would you feel then? That scenario happens too often. If you want a diffent hole to screw, get a Fleshlight - its a lot safer, cheaper, and you won't be cheating on your wife.

does jock itch go away on it own if you just use talcum powder to keep the area dry? or do u have to buy the fungal cream to cure it completely? Also is it possible to have a fungal infection without any visible signs?

Keeping the area dry makes it less attractive for fungi, but if they have already colonised the place they won't go without a fight. A cream will work much faster. You can have a low-grade infection without any symptoms.

so is it possible to have this low-grade infection and possibly pass it onto my girlfriend?

Yep. If you've got a fungus and are having sex with her, you may very likely pass it along.
