They are all right! But did you know that they are getting better at the sunless tanning products? You can go get it professionally sprayed on, one of my girlfriends did it and it looks great. None of the streaky stuff. I would try that 1st because it is dangerous, and if your really pale, sun can cause more damage quicker to you, because of the risk of sunburn.

Tanning

Spray tans are great. Not getting much sun here in rainy England so I go for a spray tan and they really do work. I'll admit to cooking in the sun when I go on holiday and come back lovely and brown but the damage I have done is irrepairable (can't spell). You can choose the intensity of the spray tan so I would have a go at that and see how you like it. Down side is no white bits to show off!!xx
-
Not much sun here in scotland either LOLWhich spray tans are the best hon? you know non streaky etc, in your opinion. And as for white lines, you could always spray yourself wearing an old bikini or somat LOL
-
The one I know of that works well, is the one you get in the salon. You "bend over for someone else"..he he how FUN! But they are even and a pro is doing it for you...not like the stuff you get in a bottle at the drug store.
-
You and I are blessed with the weather eh Angelwitch!!!I go to a salon to have mine sprayed on. They will give you delightful paper pants if you want the white bits. My friend went to a booth one where it is automatically done. Silly woman she left her glasses on!!!Not where you want your white bits to go! I shall find out what type of spray it is for you as I am treating myself tomorrow having my hair done. The little things in life at my age please me!!!
-
laffin.........that made me chuckle this morning hon, the idea of your freind with her glasses on A salon, right, so not getting the kids to do it one day after school then???? LOL
-
Thats not a bad idea!!Pay my kids 50p each to cover me in tanning lotion. But I imagine that kids being kids they would then go and wipe their hands all over the sofa! Why walk to the sink when they can use my sofa instead and still watch cartoons!!!??? The tanner lady was not there yesterday but she said she will let me know. She said the best fake ones she used from a shop were ambre solaire as they didn't go streaky but the "in" thing now is the spray on at the salon as there are no streaks. Maybe its easier to stay white or maybe the great English sun will appear at some point. Not today by the look of it lol
-
LOL not much sun here either its tipping it down.
Thanks for asking about it for me, and your kids sound just like mine LOL can't get nothing out of them when fairly odd parents is on TV
I might give Ambre solaire a go, I havn't got time to sit in the sun even IF we did have some - Thanks again hon *hugs*

OMG Fairly odd parents thats my youngests favourite. She programmes all of them into the sky reminder channel thing so most nights when she is in bed we are constantly having messages on the screen telling us Fairly odd parents is about to start!! They drive me mad ha ha. As for the weather its hailing here today and I knwo EXACTLY what you mean about having no time to relax even if it is sunny. As soon as you sit down the kids want something. Off to watch some tv...you guessed it....Fairly odd parents lol xxx

Please please please don’t go to tanning beds. I thought it would be SO cool for me to look tan since I am Irish and all I have the freckles and pale skin. I could NEVER get that bronze glow I wanted. I would go in for 7 mins and come out looking like a lobster! I thought I also needed to diet...all 135 pounds of me (I am now 145 ugh!) so I would do that and tan and all the sudden my health went down the tubes. It was awful after a fairly bad burn I started feeling achy then it got worse. I was so tired I could only be up for an hour to three hours before I was completely tanked. One day I fell down the steps when my hip or knee locked up. That was my last straw and went to the doctors then. They proceeded to run lots of tests and after visiting a college I got the call on my cell from my doctor. Bad news.... I have lupus. I had to go to a specialist for this but no one would take a 17 year old because I wasn’t an adult...until my doc now. He sent me pretty early off to get a kidney biopsy. I would have been ready if they would have told me but they didn’t. So I went into the CAT scan room thinking I was just going to get a CAT scan and go back out with my parents. Oh nooo they had to inject something into my IV to relax me I was freaking out. I had to be awake for the entire thing too…it sucked. That biopsy determined that I had systemic lupus or SLE. Meaning it affects more than just skin, muscles, and joints, blood. It was in my kidneys and that meant I had to go on chemo. I had to choose at 17 whether I wanted to have kids or not based on the form of chemo I chose. The choice was obvious I wanted kids so I chose a new break through drug called cellcept. I missed 57 days of school last year...my senior year at that. I managed somehow to get on honor roll three out of the four marking periods. But to this day I still struggle. I get around okay don’t get me wrong but there are days where I am achy as hell. I keep my head up...but this wouldn’t have happened if I had accepted my body as it was. Because of medications I gained 15 pounds. I lost 5 so far and hopefully a little more but no more is 120 a weight consideration. Anyways back to the tanning thing. I am allergic to the sun now and just last summer we went on a Royal Caribbean cruise for my graduation present and I had to wear spf 70!! It burned my skin and was awful! So if you want that just got back from vacation bronze glow go for L’Oreal sublime bronze. It works wonders. When I want to wear a light color I just use the gel and when I have a darker one on and want some instant color I use the one with the built in bronzer. I couldn’t be happier with this product and everyone asks where I went tanning or if I just got back from vacation. But I just smile and say sublime bronze I use the deep one because it lasts longer. To the top comments about looking 60 and not tanning helps fight signs of aging anyways! You should always wear SPF 15 even if you are just going for a little walk. I’m not telling my story to you all to freak you out. It’s probably a one in a million chance that this would happen to you. But remember I was an athlete, in the best shape of my life, very healthy eater the only thing I did wrong was tan. One slip and I am on life saving medications for the rest of my life and will never run half the distance I ran before, never jump as high, never lift as much and certainly never soak up as much sun as I did before. Just be careful with your body because it’s only until something life threatening happened that I realized that I love my life, my body and if I don’t get to that desired weight who the hell cares. I got into my top college and just finished my first year with a 3.0 my first semester. (I haven’t got my second back yet) The biggest thing I learned through this all is to be grateful for my life and my health, even if it has its lows I still emotionally have my highs and that’s what keeps my chin up and a smile on my face in the end.

Are you saying that tanning beds caused your lupus, and the doctors agree with that? Or that it was the thing that pushed your body over the edge?
-
At first, I was going to say that was a big stretch associating Lupus with a session in the tanning bed, but.....Some of the environmental factors that may trigger the disease are: infections, antibiotics (especially those in the sulfa and penicillin groups), ultraviolet light, extreme stress, certain drugs, and hormones. http://www.lupus.org/education/cause.html

I am blessed with the ability to tan easily. No one gets a permanent tan. It would need to be maintained some how. I usually only get burnt 2 times a year then I dont need lotion any more. When I get burnt though I dont turn red, within 4 hours it turns brown but it still hurts. Since my skin doesnt turn red and goes right to tan will this still affect me when I get older the same way it would to someone who turns red?
-
Yes it's going to affect you. Tanning, no matter what color, is bad for your skin. Nobody is safe from the sun.
-
ThanksAlso is it true that when you are in the ocean or any other body of water that the sun reflects off the water and burns you twice as bad? I never really noticed whether or not I get burnt in the water worse then when I am not.
-
Being in the water generally lessens the amount of sun exposure, but you're still being exposed. I'd suggest waterproof sunscreen if you're planning to spend and significant amount of time outside in the water.
-
The reflection in water makes it worse.
-
I generally spend most of the time with the majority of my body submerged or completely underwater so I was thinking about it from a slightly different perspective.
-
You're just as dangerous in the water

In reply to:Also is it true that when you are in the ocean or any other body of water that the sun reflects off the water and burns you twice as bad?The surface of the water reflects solar rays onto the parts of your body that are above the water. The part of your body that's under water gets somewhat less exposure (it depends how deep you are; if you're scuba diving 50 feet below the surface, you get a lot less).RobBob is right: wear plenty of good-quality waterproof sunscreen when you're in the water (or if you plan to sweat at all). Re-apply it often....even if you tan well.
