Last is an iconoclast, which means his views tend to run counter to those that are commonly accepted. Therefore, I'd wager that he'd be on the other side of the views you attribute to him.

I love gays. I mean that in the most platonic way possible. (Was Plato gay?)

This article by Daniel C. Dennett, a Tufts University Philosophy professor, pretty much blows away the idea of teaching "intelligent design" in science classes. In fact, it makes as much scientific sense as palm reading and phrenology.Even if you're a fundamentalist Christian, you should be able to understand that philosophical speculation is not the same thing as science. If only people comprehended what science is...it's so sad that so many don't.

That they want it taught is science class is the problem, because creationism and intelligent design have nothing to do with science. Teaching it in philosophy class is fine with me, as long as religious beliefs aren't taught as actual facts, just as they teach about Greek and Roman gods.

Spot on Steve! I have nothing against Creationism and/or Intelligent Design being discussed in schools but claiming that ID is scientific in any way is clearly wrong, as ANYBODY with an understanding of science will know.Likewise, a recent poll (beginning of 2005 sometime?) in a US paper, claimed that 75% of Americans think evolution is rubbish. I don't believe that for one second. Although most of my American friends are fairly religious (I'm not), many of them still agree that the theory of evolution is the most sensible theory yet proposed and is very probably correct. However, the father of one of my friends is a literal creationist. As far as he's concerned, anything more than 6500 years old is either a fake or proof that God exists and is testing us. He's a biochemist and is working hard in Florida to persuade the state government to outlaw evolution completely on the basis that it must be wrong since even if apes were capable of somehow mutating into humans, it would take a lot longer than 6500 years and since the universe was only created 6500 years ago, it obviously hasn't happened yet.You just can't argue rationally with that sort of person.

He's a biochemist and is working hard in Florida to persuade the state government to outlaw evolution completely on the basis that it must be wrong...A kook in Florida? Quelle surprise, alors. The governor's brother (who happens to be the President) thinks that the jury is still out on evolution (and global warming as well: no matter how many studies are done, more are always needed).
