Ok hey, my friend just recently found out that she has herpes and me and her were having a talk about it. I was told that no matter what you can spread them and she was told that you can only pass them on if you have a break out, and shes on medicine. Which i thought just kept you from having a break out yet you can still spread it. I have no idea, but i really wanted to see if anyone on here knows, thats way i can let her know and she can be informed. How can i give her a clue that she needs to chill out now, i mean getting herpes is a big deal and shes acting like its nothin. i just want to be here for her and help her but just dont know what to do anymore.

Herpes

You're right, it can be spread with no signs of a breakout, through something called "Viral Shedding." Tell her to look it up if she doesn't believe you.
And yes, the medication is only meant to supress the virus, controlling the duration and painfulness of the break-outs.

However, you are much more infectious when you do have outbreaks than when you don't.

Don't know, check it out. There are lots of web pages with herpes info. You can do your own research and print out a few and give it to her to read (or give her the links).

Hey I'm new to the forums here and I just wanted to add that as of today I have been diagnosed with herpes... I'm also doing my own research as how to stop the majority of outbreaks and everything else... Well ya I'll be posting more here now...

Hey Kyte! I saw you got diagnosed and i just wanted to tell you that Herpes is not the end of the world. That was what I thought when i knew i had it! I think i had it for years in my blood until it finally came out. I had one outbrake and it was very painful. I havent had another one in 10 months!!! My doctor sais that i might now get it again. My boyfriend is the same. He only had an outbreak once. We have no idea where it came from, it´s hard to say when it comes to herpes. But just take good care of yourself and try not to get sick and stay out of the SUN! Take care!

Hey thanks for the positive out look I think I can move on... lol it's gonna be kinda hard staying outta the sun here in CALI especailly this summer. Well thnx for your advice I haven't had a breakout yet but ya I think it's better to get a prescription already and try and keep it down See ya =]

Ok, what exactly do herpes look like. Like what do most of the breakouts look like? and how long do they usually last? is the only way to see if something is herpes is to have them look at it and say if it is?
-
Hmm well the outbreaks are like small sores or blister looking things which are clustered together that usually just burst and leave the soft exposed skin underneath which is very... well painful. the symptoms can be looked up anywhere on the net. How long they last I dunno I hear about 2 to 3 weeks but I'm not shure. The only way to truly be sure is to take a culture test which is where they'll take a cotton swab rub it against the sore area and make their tests from there

Kyte, how did you get diagnosed with herpes if you've never even had an outbreak?
