Acne is caused by bacteria, and an allegeric reaction. So, don't sleep on your hands or arms...that should reduce the bacteria part. But some acne is also a reaction to testosterone, in which case, you're almost out of luck . Just bear with it, it'll go away eventually.

Sadly, it doesn't work that way for everyone. But if you're 20 and still having acne problems, then maybe you should see your doctor and he can prescribe you some treatments. If you just want it to go away now, then you can go to your doctor now, and he'll probably go ahead and give you something.

Acne is caused by bacteria from the skin infecting a sebaceous gland. These become larger and more active at puberty because of hormone changes, making them susceptible to infection. Treatment can be by:
1. Topical antiseptics to kill the bacteria on the skin. This is what the face washes do.
2. Systemic antibiotics. This is only used in severe cases, as over-use of antibiotics encourages bacteria to become resistant.
3. Drugs (eg Accutane) that make the sebaceous glands less active. This is very effective, but it has quite a few side effects, some due to the skin becoming drier. It's only used for particularly severe cases.
