If you think Bud is bad for you check this
-
Why are you so into convincing people that weed is good? Give it a rest
-
No see i was actually googleing what i said earlier, and i found that and i also found what steve said was true about thc opening the lungs, its in that site. So i figured i would put that. So if i pissed you guys off
-
Okay you know what? This has nothing to do with whether it's good for you or not. Which it actually isn't. It's because most teenagers use it as a way to escape life. I think that's really really weak of them. I'm 14 and I think anyone who does weed is idiotic. Seriously. Half the stuff on that site isn't even true. And if they legalize it, then everyone who votes yes are REAL imbeciles. Stop using weed as a way to get away or run around being stupid because it's 'cool', it will **** up your life! I know people who have had real problems with it! Also, it IS a gateway drug, don't you ever watch the news?! Have you ever talked to people who use heavier stuff now?! It's because weed is just a drug, so people start experimenting with other drugs.
-
There's really no point to arguing with these morons, they were the kids who were in DARE throughout high school and think a puff of marijuana will kil you. You just can't talk to people this uninformed and ignorant. Marijuana is more dangerous as an illegal drug than if it were legalized.
-
Now I'm not advocating everyone pick up a joint and start smoking, but a lot of what you say is not true, and has the effect of making people not pay attention to the negative aspect of drugs that are true.Pot is not a panacea, but it won't melt your brain after one puff either.
-
Your very misinformed.
-
Clever, you are 14, wait til you grow up to get into a conversation like this... You watch too much TV or listen to too much propaganda, thats whole problem why marijuana is not legal, to much freaking propaganda.According to a DEA Judge ``marijuana is the safest therapeutically active substance known to mankind.''
-
coming from an ex avid pot smoker for probably 10 years i gotta say this. You gotta be really high if you think weed isn't bad for you. Firstly, you're smoking something. Smoke isn't meant to be in your lungs. Secondly it sucks a lot of motivation out of people. Now i'm not against pot at all. In fact i'm pro marijuana and feel it should be at the bare minimum decriminilzied. but to say that it isn't bad for you is just plain stupid. and to the 1942 anti marijuana poster boy, get a clue man. Firstly pot is NOT a gateway drug. That is a misconception because pot is illegal in this country. I gurantee that 90% of the pot smokers of the world tried nicotine or alcohol well before they tried pot. But why isn't nicotine or alcohol considered gateway drugs? Well the answer is simple, those companies have a lot of $ tied into the politics game. Can people have problems with marijuana, of course. people can also have problems with twinkies though. I suppose the worst would be a marijuana abuser who's also addicted to twinkies.
-
another note to the clever youngster. people who would vote yes to legalize marijuana are imbeciles? Do you have any idea how jam packed this countries prision system is? Do you have any idea how much time is wasted in courts for marijuana violations? Do you have any idea what a waste of time it is for cops to arrest people for smoking pot? I'm yet to meet a single cop (who doesn't work in a small rural town) who thinks that marijuana should remain illegal. Odds are any cop who does think it should remain illegal is a small town cop who knows that marijuana use by local kids is the only thing that keeps him from falling asleep on the job.

You can always eat weed like in brownies, cookies, or spaghetti, or vaporize it. There are lots of alternatives that people use. People who use medicinal mary usually vaporize. Some cops dont even give a damn about weed, especially in larger cities where rape, homicide, gangs, and crack are a much bigger issue. In my state its the equivilant of a speeding ticket for possession or cultivation of up to 10 plants or something. Sometimes a cop will just take your bud and let u off, sometimes theyll even let u keep it and tell u to stay out of trouble. one kid told me he knew someone who was caught dealing and the cops told him as long as he laid low and didnt deal meth they didnt give a damn about him. but other cops have a power trip and will tear your car apart for a phish sticker on the windshield

I was just looking around and found this discussion. I used to smoke pot everyday for about 2 1/2 years, smoked it when I was 4 quite frequently. When I do smoke it now, which is very rare, it gives me anxiety. I can't be around more than 1 or 2 people when I do it. It used to be totally fun. Maybe it's me I don't know but I can say that it does have negative effects. I don't need someone to tell me otherwise, I have first hand experience. Anybody who says it's ok and it doesn't harm you at all is only lieing to themselves so they don't feel bad when they smoke it. To each his own, I just wanted to share what I felt about it.
-
Jeez, get it through your damn head! Weed isn't good for you. I think you're retarded if you do any drugs.
-
hey buddy if u would look at some new posts you would see that i stopped smoked smoking bud.
-
I think you're retarded if you do any drugs. That's a pretty sweeping statement. Are you a recovering addict?
-
First of all, drugs in of themselves, are not inherently bad. Would you consider Tylenol to be 'bad'? It may not have hallucinogenic effects, but in large doses can be lethal. Have you considered the fatal effects of large doses of a household spice, nutmeg? My point is simple, all drugs can be abused, and can potentially lead to complications and/or death. However, drugs, when used in moderation, have different and very beneficial effects for people. Tylenol being a pain killer, nutmeg being a flavoring agent, and even the illegal substance marijuana for its "relaxing" and reacreational usage. Now I've noticed some people are trying to make marijuana (at least on this topic) seem like it is horrible by saying, "All it does is give me anxiety, oh no!" Drugs have very different effects on different people. Notice how OTCs have varying effects. Some OTCs cure the ailment they say they cure, while for some people they do nothing. Some people get drunk and become violent, while others become lucid, and others become comedians. These examples serve the purpose that drugs vary in their effects on people, but for the most part, marijuana has a powerful and "positive" (positive in this case meaning pleasant or beneficial) experience. Otherwise no one would use it.

"Marijuana is a gateway drug."OK.Oxygen is the gateway element to drugs. I guarantee that 100% of drug users breath oxygen. Anyone else want to criminalize oxygen users? Those rotten oxygen users! Damn them!!!!!!! Damn them TO HELL!!!!!!!!! "I think you're retarded if you do any drugs."I'm retarded then. I suppose you think these people are retarded as well: Carl Sagan, William Shakespeare, Diego Rivera, Jack London, Paul McCartney. After all, each one of them smoked marijuana. Now are they retards or geniuses?Bah. If you fools (naive children?) want to make comments, at least get educated first. I'm not saying it's OK to do drugs, I'm saying shut up if you're an idiot. The purpose of this site is to ASK and to LEARN, not to sulk about in ignorance.

sigh, i think that pot isnt that terrible. yeah, its probably isnt the best thing for you seeing as it screws up your lungs. but my friend used to be a pothead and she said that the only thing that pot smoking affected was her breathing, and like someone else said, there are other ways like brownies and such.i think if you are responsible about your weed smoking (or intaking) and not do it that often then its ok, its fun once in a while

Have to say I agree with Stars. I've smoked pot occasionally over the past 6 or 7 years (never more than 1 or twice a month and not at all in the past 5 months) even though I'm aware of the affects it can have. I don't think it's done me a huge amount of damage so far.
Like any drug, marijuana can lead to problems if you abuse it. In 2001 or 2002, New Scientist published the results of a 10 year study into the affects of marijuana on people. The participant group wasn't particularly large (about 500 people I think) but it included people like myself who are very moderate/occasional smokers, regular smokers who've only been smoking for a year or two and other people who have been smoking 1 or more joints a day regularly for anything up to 25 years at the start of the study.
All of these people were put through a series of tests when they joined the study (I.Q., word-assocation, memory, coordination, health etc.) and these tests were repeated every 18 months or so throughout the 10 years. For the moderate smokers and the short-term smokers, dependant on their particular use, the results weren't conclusive. Some had lost lung capacity, some had problems with recall, some did worse on the IQ tests. But some of them had improved in some areas.
The results for the people who smoked a lot or who had been smoking for a very long time, were much more clear-cut. All of them had suffered deterioration in one or more of the categories and for some of them, their health had deteriorated dramatically over the 10 years as had short-term memory, coordination and concentration. Many of them also suffered depression and moodswings or a level of lethargy which the researchers concluded as a group was highly abnormal. However, it was pointed out that the people in this category were in general much older than the rest of the participants and that their age may have been a factor in their poor performance.
A small number of these people had tried 'harder' drugs but for most of them, marijuana was the only illegal substance that they had ever used.
The study is continuing and will publish another set of results around about 2011/2012 I think.

Longitudinal study....cool. Another logitudinal study (the Framingham study) showed that vitamin supplements are largely useless, unless you have a specific deficiency (exeception: folic acid if you're pregnant).
The problem with studies like the one you mention, unless they're really well done, is that it's hard to untangle cause and effect. It's possible, for instance, that the type of person who indulges in heavy, long-term marijuana use is the type of person who has underlying physical or psychological problems. So it's premature to talk about "proof", but the evidence that's harvested from such a study is very valuable.
