Everyday before school we walk up a flight of stairs(two storys) and i always am out of breath, even during football season when im in very good shape. Its so annoying and i never get use to it even at the end of the year im still breathing hard. It really annoys me, why is it like that?

Walking up stairs

You may be holding your breath as you're walking up the stairs. If you're holding your breath as you're walking up the stairs your lungs aren't getting enough oxygen. So when you finally get up that flight of stairs and you let all that air out you start breathing more rapidly to try and make up for the oxygen that you weren't inhaling. It's like trying to hold your breath while you're under water. At least, this is how it was explained to me. I just learned to breathe while I'm running up the stairs or running in general.

That sounds like a resonable explanation.....also what about asthma? Do you notice any trouble breathing elsewhere? IS it maybe just starting in the spring? I noticed you live in illinois, the pollen count has been horrible here and my allergies are killin me so i wouldnt be shocked if that had somethin to do with it.

I have no asthma because during football i am fine. I think its because i might be holding my breath. And it happens year around so i dont think its allergies, but yes it is very horrible around here
