im graduating high school next week and the week after that is my senior beach week trip. i'm supposed to get my period within the first few days that we get there - which sucks. i just got my first perscription to birth control but the doctor said to start taking it on the first sunday after my period starts (at the beach)...i asked a friend who is already on the pill and she said that it would be ok to just start taking it now and that if i did it would prevent me from getting my period at the beach, is this true/ and if it is, is it ok to start them now?
-
Can i start birth control now?
-
You can start taking it now to avoid having your period during beach week. Most people just start on Sundays because it's easier to remember.
-
so if i take it now (one week before beach week) i will not get my period then?...will i just skip a month then?
-
yes

I'm not so sure that was the best advice. The doctor said the first sunday after her period. The arbitrary part of that statement was the sunday in fact, as some people will start their BCP's on any day of the week, Sunday being convenient for scheduling purposes. However, 'after your period' was less arbitrary. Not only should the pill be started after your cycle ended, but taking it before your cycle ended could account for a decent amount of the side effects you later posted that you experienced.Thank you

You can start it any day of the week...as for her side effects, feeling sick, well that can happen no matter what day you start. That has nothing to do with her starting it on a day other than a Sunday.

Did you not just read what I wrote? You can start it any day of the week, but the intention was to start it AFTER her period begins. The reason for that is obvious to some, but the period which is destined to come in a matter of days wil not just hang around for another month. Thats why it is advisable to start after the period. Can you start before? Some women even use BCP's as a means to avoid periods altogether. I would never recommend someone who has not taken the pill to regulate her cycle before to experiment as such, and I would certainly not recommend that she take her medications in any way that her doctor has instructed her not to. Thats why I have to clean up these messes in the pharmacy and the hospital on a daily basis because people aren't really aware of the fact that when it comes to medicine, they should usually do as they're told, and ask questions to those same medical professionals if they have any.

Oh god not a know-it-all

Hardly...I just have information on a particular subject that might be of interest to some people. An attack on my character only affects those I don't get to help. All jokes aside, if anyone has any questions I'll be here.
