Crackers and N#####

Ummmm..well where I live there's a huge double standard. My sister and brother hang out with a few people who are black and they constantly say, "What up cracka?", but let a white person say, "What up nigga?" and there's a fight after school - every time. It never fails. It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. If you're gonna call someone a cracker don't get all pissed because someone says 'nigga'. I find both words completely foul because I'm not a cracker. I'm a human being who happens to be caucasion. And don't even get me started on the word 'nigga'. I mean you're still saying the word nigger, you're substituting er for uh. Completely ignorant in my opinion.

Yah thats what i say, like my school is white and mexican and not one black in our grade. And say if a black guy moved to our school in my grade and said what up cracker in disrespect he would get fucked up right there, but see theres a difference in nigga and nigger, nigga means homie or friend and some black people dont care and nigger is a racist word that i hate, and same with cracka and cracker
-
there's a big difference between the literal meaning of "cracker" and "nigger".
-
You just gotta know who gets offended when you say "what's up nigga" and who doesn't ....
And like football said.. nigga isn't a bad word, nigger is.
-
Whats the big difference in the meaning? I see no difference both can be racial and both can mean homie or friend
-
I've never heard anyone say cracker like that. At my school, racial tension is very low. People still make racist jokes, but most of it is just light humour (it's rarely taken seriously). It really depends on what kind of place you live in.

There are no crackers in Alberta, Canada. In fact, are there any minorities in Alberta?
-
Maybe when one says 'nigger', if they are of caucasian background (why that specific background...I dunno), it relates to the time when africans were being called that to show that they were lesser persons and were expendable property. The term 'cracka(er)', a term made up from a person's mind that resembles a snack food...what's the history? It's basically a way to have a derogatory remark against the caucasians. As for myself I don't really find either one offensive. If a person feels they have to use such words in a degrading sense, that just shows lack of imagination. It also shows a serious misscommunication between the two of us. S/He feels it will demoralize, perhaps enrage me? Well they are mistaken. I take just as much offense by those words, as I would if i were called a lamp post, cigarrette, or even a cardboard box. Same with the 'middle finger' but I won't get into that.

See the Wikipedia's entry for "white cracker".
See the Wikipedia entry for "nigger".
See the wictionary entry for "nigger".See Harvard University law professor Randall Kennedy's 2002 book Nigger: The Strange Career of a Troublesome Word. He wrote the essay A Note On The Word "Nigger" for Harper's Weekly.
The word "cracker" had been falling out of use...it seems to have been resurrected.

nicely said BMOCHere's something stupid... I didn't know cracker was supposed to be a derogatory term for whites. Of course, I was never offended to be called a honky either.Racial terms are so peculier in nature. I'm white, I'm also a caucasion, however not all caucasions are white. The term has more to do with skellital structure than colour. Indians are caucasion. As far as black people go, there is this crazy P.C. thing where every couple of years the terminology has to change. Negro (basically meaning black), coloured person (I thought we all were), person of colour (again), African American (even if you're neither).I've even heard discriptions of wanted people on the news where they omitt any racial information in the description. If we spent less time on pollitical correctness and names in general, we could put a little more effort towards solving tensions between the races, which frankly, are getting a little old IMO.

I tried to stay out of this whole thing, cause its so ridiculous. If someone gets offended by these taboo sort of words, and they are in your regular vocabulary, it could mean trouble. at schools, in the office, what ever. I have a very dear friend that got fired cause he was calling his friend a "nigga" and another black person in the store got offended. I think they are stupid terms and should be erased from everyones vocabulary, there are so many other terms to describe people.
-
i wouldn;t care if i was called cracka or cracker. i would never call any one that or nigga or nigger. i have called ry cracker though but only cuz when i do he laughs like crazy. i'd be more like dude!
-
"nigga" is obviously derived from "nigger and can be easily be mistaken for the original. "nigger" is just a plain insult and can be used for anyone, though it is primarily used to describe black people. "cracker", in my mind doesn't seem to be nearly of the same calibur insult as "nigger" if it is used in the literal sense, so sure if you want people to think your calling them niggers then go ahead and say it, but i sure wouldn't want to be called one.
-
um... i eat crackers and nigga is never used in my vocabulary until right now
-
There are huge asian minorities where I live, Chinese, Korean, and Indian mostly (not so much Japanese for whatever reason). We don't have a big African minority, but it's not like there are no cultural minorities. Canada's all about diversity But I honestly hadn't heard the term cracker.
-
Cracker is a somewhat derogatory term for a (poor / racist / uneducated / choose-a-stereotype) white southerner. It was most often used for people from Georgia (and sometimes Florida, so I've been told). Now it's often used by southern blacks to describe "redneck" whites. The term African American is a bit of a problem. In Miami, there are a lot of blacks from Haiti and other Caribbean islands, who are not American citizens. I was skiing in Quebec with a very politically correct American girl a while back, and she referred to a black guy there as an African American. I don't think she realized what she said until I gave her a "WTF?" look.
-
duh. duh. duh!IF it happens. in your life that someone must describe you physically, should your race be included?
-
i have always heard that cracker was originally used by slaves referring to the masters cracking the whipsi dont know how true it is but if that is true it makes the term cracker derogatorywe joke around at my school by calling eachother honkeysi have many black friends that wouldnt mind if i walked up and called someone a "nigga" so i dont see why we cant all just get along
