Psoriasis

I have Eczema, the childlike form of psoriasis. Keep the afflicted areas dry and cool. Westcort is a good moisterizer for eczema/psoriasis. Don't scratch it, or try not to.

Hi. Doverbet is pretty good depends where you have psorisis but doverbet good for the skin. getting out in the sun also helps. Betnovate for the scalp is really good butburns like hell if the psoriasis is open or cracked. Also stuff with coal tar in is really good but smells a bit. Hope this helps xxx

Psoriasis is similar to excema but not the same. Psoriasis is where the skin cells multiply up to 10 times quicker than normal skin cells and because they don't have time to shed they build up which gives the look of thickened scaly skin. Stress is a known factor to making it worse so the more you worry about it the worse it can get but I know its easier said than done not to worry about it. xx

Eczema and psoriasis are not the same thing, and eczema affects many adults. But they're both difficult to spell.
Some of the newer drugs (topical cremes) to treat eczema, Elidel and Protopic, are immunomodulators that don't have the negative affect of steroidal cremes and ointments. Unfortunately, a recent a recent study found that they're linked to cancer; ther more they're used, the higher the risk.
There are new psoriasis drugs, such as Amevive, Enbrel (lots of TV ads for this), and Raptiva. If you have psoriasis, you should discuss it with a dermatologist (other doctors will not be as well informed).

Hey Steve A can you be my doc!! I recently went to see my consultant about Amevive and they had never heard of it but because I am doingmy training I had found out a bit about it. Over here within the fab NHS Amevive is unavailable to people with moderate Psoriasis and each injection can cost upto £1000. I use doverbet which is the latest thing out in the uk which seems to be helping but the sun is brill and although you have to be careful it really does help.

That's all good.I'll tell you one thing for sure: doctors who are not dermatologists can get really confused by skin conditions...even if they're really smart. I had a mild case of eczema that a bunch of doctors could not figure out. They kept giving me anti-fungal creme, thinking it was candidiasis (yeast). Whether I used the creme or not, my skin did its own thing. Then I went to a dermatoligist and he immediately figured it out. Then I found a medical Web site that had a bunch of images, and they all looked exactly like my case.I suppose one clue might have been that it appeared in an area where you just don't get candida. The Web is my go-to doctor. No need for an appointment. And it's free (important in the U.S.). And doctors think it's cool when you tell them about treatment options they haven't read about yet.

We are lucky here that medical treatment is free although I had a 2 year waiting list to get to see a consultant regarding my skin so I ended up going private in the end!Got an appointment within 2 days for the exact same consultant. They do seem very dehind here with regards to new treatments and tend to stick to the same old unless you do your research and tell them something new. One cream sorts the lot!!Not!!

Everything takes sooooooooo long to happen over here but flash them some money and you magically have an appointment whenever suits you. Is really crazy system.

Hi again Jan,Have replied to your PM sorry for the delay. Have you tried Doverbet? It is pretty new in the UK but seems to behelping mine to a degree. I have just got back from a holiday and the sun has cleared it up so much already. Just make sure you are still careful with the sun lotion so u don't burn.Am off again next week for 2 weeks so am going to lie out in the sun and try and improve it a bit more.Stress also plays a big part so the more you worry about it the worse it gets. Easier said than done but try not to let it get to you
