Questions on Birth Control Girls?
-
If i were to go on to the pill.. would i need parental conseent if i am under 18? im almost 18 but my parents are against the pill but i want to go on it to be safe.. how should i go about this
-
That is a wonderful question. By asking it you may have helped alot of girls out there. The answer is: Maybe. You see individual states decide how to interpret the laws (or make new ones) to protect the rights or minors or of guardians. You need to find out the rules in your state to know the answer. Many states have a form of privately funded organization that distributes birth control even if the state doesn't fund such programs. in the northeast or in any of the 'blue' states you will most likely be able to find information on how to get birth control for FREE. Contact PLANNED PARENTHOOD for individual regulations. I would privide a link, but im online with my cell-phone right now! To sum it up, I would say yes, almost everywhere protects the privacy of minors, and contact PP for definate info for your area. If you are keeping pills from your parents, also inquire about the shot, Depo-Provera. It lasts 3 months, and there is no evidence that you are using it! Great question! I hope this info helps.

ic do you know if texas has this law also? Would CVS have BC'S? And whcih one is the most effective for girls? When do you have to take them Right after you have sex?
-
talk to your doctor.
-
If you're talking about the pill, yes CVS carries them, but you need a prescription from a doctor. You take the pill at the same time everday regardless of whether or not you had sex that day.
-
What about that PLan B stuff.. it says take this pill within 72 hours and this one after 12 hours of consumption of first pill and then your done, ?
-
That's not regular birth control. People take that when they've had an "accident" and think there's a chance of pregnancy. That's not something you take on a daily or regular basis to prevent pregnancy.

Shes right as usual guys. Most every Pharmacy stocks BCP's (Birth-control pills), which are by prescription ONLY. Why is that? Good question. Because each person is different, and the doctor must choose the right BCP for you based on Age, Weight and Hormonal levels. These pills are taken 1 pill every day in number order until the pack is complete, and then the next pack is begun. The cost ranges, but to be honest the average cost is about $35. The most popular brand of BCP's (birth-control pills) or OC's (oral contraceptives) as they are sometimes called, is the ORTHO line of products. Ortho-Tri-Cyclen, Ortho-Tri-Cyclen LO, Ortho Cyclen, Ortho Micronor, and Ortho Novum are among the most common. Don't forget, their GENERICS, where available, are IDENTICAL and will work just as well - but at a lower cost. These products are pharmacist recommended, as long as they have the approval from the FDA.NOW on to ER's or EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTIVES There are a few different kinds, but rising to the surface with nearly 80% of all ER prescriptions is PLAN-B. The proper use of this drug involves taking 1 tablet ASAP after an accident involving a condom breakage, irresponsible sexual intercourse, or in some cases - Rape. We'll get to rape in a moment. While these tablets shoulds be used ASAP, they still retain SOME effeciveness after 72 hours have passed, and new studies show it is even moderately effective at 104 hrs. It should be noted, however, that the SOONER it is taken, the HIGHER the percentage effective the drug has been found to be. So within 48 hours is obviously better than 72 hours.Rape. Rape victims have choices. It is obvious that it is a rediculously difficult time to make decisions, but it is imperative that you act. Your major concern should not be pregnancy. It should be reporting this crime. Remember that if you don't report what 1 person has done to you, they will continue to commit these terrible crimes. The police can help by investigating, finding you private counseling, and assisting you with concerns you might have regarding pregnancy. In rape cases, using Plan-B is not the only solution, and calling the police will lead you down a path where people who want to help you, can. You don't need to be alone, and these people must be stopped.Hope this information proves helpful, and feel free to send me a private message with more detailed questions. I have been getting a wonderful response from people asking questions, and although there are many, I will answer them all. Have a great day, and remember: You look nice today!Joey B

> In rape cases, using Plan-B is not the only solution
Are you willing to fill a prescription for Plan-B?
-
Wow what a great question. I would say I do not enforce my own morality on a patient in need. And so yes absolutely I do fill ER Rx's. However I often have refused to honor REFILLS which the doctor places on the prescription. If I break my arm and get emergency pain meds, do I get a refill in case I break my arm again? No, of course not, and thats why having 6 refills on an ER rx is absurd. I'm willing to discuss this further, but not in this thread. Please keep this thread alive with all questions BC related! Thanks for asking, this is a complex issue I look forward to expanding on.Joey B

okay recently i went to planned parenthood and they told me about depo-provera or whatever it's called.. the shot. i signed up for it, but since the nurse practicioner wasn't there, i had to make another appointment to actually receive the shot. i went home and did a little bit of research on the shot and all i saw were horror stories about getting a period for months straight and gaining 50 pounds. i also heard that the person couldn't get pregnant and that it was a pain because you never know if you're pregnant since you don't get your period. i also heard it causes osteoperosis. i have been on the pill as well as the patch, but i'm scared to get the shot. pretty much, what i'm asking is if depo-provera really is as awful as all these people make it seem like online. is the pill the better route to take? thank you so much.

First of all, knowledge is power. Don't ever hesitate to ask questions, the answers are out there. Above all, take the word of the manufacturer over what anyone else says about the drug. www.depoprovera.comOk, but to summarize there are some notable advantages to using the Depo shot, and you need to weigh all your options. ADVANTAGES: Lasts 3 monthsNo evidence that it has been usedHigher effectiveness than BCP'sCONCERNSWeight gainBone density issuesNot sure its workingWell to address the weight gain, which for some is a major issue, Studies have shown 2/3 of all users gained an average of 4.4 pounds in 12 months. Thats a study based on thousands of women. People gain weight for all sorts of reasons, but they rarely accept responsibility for any of it themselves. The drug will not make you gain 50 pounds, but is often the scapegoat of such accusations. The study shows 4.4 pound average gain in 12 months, and that was only 2/3 of the people, 1/3 gained less than that or even lost weight. Read the ACTUAL statistics and make an informed decision on your own. www.depoprovera.comBone density loss is another concern. Short term use of 2 years or less has shown to have negligible effects on bone mineral density after 2 more years of non-use. To address this concern I would recommend taking a 600mg calcium plus D tablet every day as a precaution. The only other thing you need to know, is that when taken properly at the proper times, it works, and you don't need to give it a second thought. No worries. No hassles. It just does what it does very well. Just like you!Everything is a RISK versus BENEFIT evaulation. If getting pregnant is NOT and option, taking the pill is a hassle, you forget sometimes, or people CAN'T know you're on it, DEPO may be right for you. I do strongly recommend it, and know many many of my patients who use it. Don't take my word for it though, GO TO THE WEBSITE! You can make an informed decision then. Thanks for the question. Follow up if you are still concerned.Joey B
