He's looking for advice and you people are so damn cynical about it. It would help if he would elaborate a bit, but if he felt that he could easily just think of something to talk about then he wouldn't be here asking for advice. I have the same problem as you. I'm awful at thinking of things to say, and it seems like nothing comes to mind when the opportunity to talk arises. The biggest thing is to try to put yourself in situations where you need to talk, and don't worry about what you say. Try talking more to people that you don't know very well and just talk about whatever they're talking about or some random thing that comes to mind, I've found that it helps me to get over worrying about what I'll say and actually saying something (whether it means anything or not doesn't matter because it leads into conversation). Part of it is just a mindset that you need to get yourself out of. I have problems with it all the time, although I'm better at making conversation with people I don't know well (girls in particular) than I used to be. In the end, it's got to come from you. You've got to actively put yourself in new situations. I school trip that I went on was one of the best experiences of my life because it forced me to open up and look at the world around me rather than sitting in my own little box (figuritively speaking) and being overly anxious, shy, and introverted.

I'm sort of having this problem too. Here's what I came up with:
what kind of music they like, favourite actors/actresses, movies they wanna see, where would they go if you could travel anywhere, what they do for fun, what sports they're into...etc to start off. From there it's almost like an interview I find. You talk about something and add your two cents or ask more questions based on what came up.
I think having like 3 default topics makes them easy to remember and you're never caught with nothing to say. -
This is pretty common in younger adults (feeling old today!!) there is a time, when boys think girls are icky and want nothing to do with them and go and do stuff with groups of male things.......then all of a sudden girls are what they want and they havn't a clue what girls think/talk/care about, they worry that girls won't wanna talk sports etc, but, i have to say that girls also feel like this, many girls freeze up thinking that hey the guys won't wanna talk about make up either............ok so this is a childish generalisation but you get my point..........you have to find something that both sexes enjoy to talk about, films, music etc............and go from there.............have confidence too, as this is a big thing, and bare in mind that the girl you speaking to probably feels the same way you do, and is pretty relieved that you started a conversation about something she can have some input about..........
