One study I heard was that, the mark of the beast, 666, was actually a name game among the residents of the time when Revelations was written. The Beast was a prosecutor of jews, and each name had a certain amount of numbers. The jews at the time, knew the game as they had been playing since they were children, and it was passed down through generations. And the middle letter corresponded with a 1. So the theory is that, 666 is incorrect, and that the true mark of the beast is 616 - probably nero.

Michel de Nostradame (Nostradamus) was born in Provence, France in 1503. Some consider him to be a prophet, other consider him to be a bozo.
-
Dont say that. It is similar to my area code (San Diego)
-
I agree, wasnt the world suposed to end 5 years ago rolls eyes i wouldnt believe it, if i were any of you.
-
You're right. It will end in 2012 according to the most accurate calendar man has ever created; the Mayan calendar.
-
Yah i remember seeing something about that on TV and i always remembered it because 2012 is when ill be 24 which is my golden birthday lol. But i dont remember there reasoning and what would happen, do you?

Some consider Jesus a prophet, or people consider him a bozo.
What's your point?
-
What's your point? It's not rocket science. Think about it. What do you think it means?

._. my only question is what of these dates?June 6, 1906 - 6/6/06June 6, 1806 - 6/6/06June 6, 1706 - 6/6/06 why the hell is 2006 special? and/or exception to what has passed?
-
I'm not sure if it's the most accurate...Just a question...did they Mayans know about leap years? and the 23.?? hour days that we have? so I would call their calendar the best guessed calendar that we have.
-
if you actually believe anything a christian tells you...
oh never mind
-
What do you mean? Christians are always right!!! I swear, those WMDs were there a few minutes ago!!
But seriously, people have been predicting the end of the universe since the universe began! Unless someone tells Bush what that little red button does, we're safe!

In reply to: Unless someone tells Bush what that little red button does, we're safe! !!! ok i just had to let you know that is the funniest thing i've heard all day. since you know one day he'll just get curious "ohh shiny button! press"

I hope there is a nuclear war, then I could be among the few survivors and start my own civilization.

Somewhere in the Bible ( don't ask, it has been a long time) it says that Christ will return like a thief in the night, and no man will kow the time of his comming (Mary Magdeline jokes aside). Look at it. If there is to be a termination of mans reign on Earth, and we or some are to be taken into heaven, it would be foolish to establish the date so that everyone can sin up to that date, right? And dates are a MAN made convinience. If there is a God, I would imagine that he is a powerfull one, and dates would mean nothing to that entity. If there were dates to go by, since there is the international date line, would that impact anything? I mean, would those on one side of the date line acend to heaven and those on the other side of the world have to wait another day???Nostradamus is as valid/credible as one wants him to be.
-
Nostradamus is as credible as your local psychic.Jesus seemed to have left the impression that the End would come not long after his death. Well, we're waiting.
-
If God exists and he is gonna destroy all humans (he should be in Dr.Who!) we would already be gone. Time means nothing to him, if he destroyed us it wouldn't be an explosion or anything, he could just wipe our history from the universe. But since the Bible seems to think that the universe revolves around us, the fate of the universe lies in the fate of humans. We have the power to destroy everything, and all we have to do is be as gay as possible. That'll piss him off enough.

One of the most confounding things about the Bible. There are so many variations and intrepetations, that it can be all things to all people, or nothing. The big flaw is it was originally written or at least the Old Testement, in a language that has no vowels, and arguments of usage leave many uncertain. It is truly a book that one must take on faith.
-
It's an ambiguous text that some people take literally. Is that a contradiction? And then there's the assumption of authorship by a divine, omniscient being, one who doesn't know vowels.
