Okay, i dont know where to start. i need to know all about genital warts. i have been to the gyno numerous times recently to get a "rash" examined on the outter lips of my vagina. the doctor seems to believe it to be eczema. the rash is an area of raised tender skin that sometimes becomes dry and flakey but otherwise just is red and very itchy. my dr precsribed a medication called Lidex aka fluocinonide. with the medication the rash vanished within a day or two. i stopped using the medication because she said it can scar if used in excess. a month later, when i started menstruating, the rash returned. i went back to the dr and she said she wanted to do a vulva biopsy of the area after my period had finished up. well when my period finished so did the rash, so i now have to wait for it to return again so i can get the biopsy. the dr says that this can be one of three things: eczema, gential warts, or herpes. I really dont think it is herpes and really leaning towards eczema, however i am terrified that it may also be gential warts. i have had pap tests since the 1st time i had intercourse and they have always been normal. another reason i am concerned this may be warts is because at the opening of my vagina there is an area that, to me, seems it could resemble warty looking skin. i asked my dr about this and she says that it is a common thing found in sexually active women and it is jus loose skin, nothing to be worried about. if you pull the skin there are no bumps or anything there, but it just concerns me. i also have a white odorless discharge, it isnt thick and seems like it could be normal discharge. i asked the doctor if the medicine she gave me would clear up warts, if that was indeed what it was, and she said no that the medicince only heals eczema. i do not doubt my gynocologists intelligence but i am freaking out and really need to hear from people who do suffer from stds to inform me if these symptoms sound familiar. i know all cases differ from person to person, thats why im glad i stumbled upon this site. this rash first apeared in february and i wonder if it was gential warts and they had been untreated for this long would it have spread to other areas of my vagina by now? How are vaginal warts on the vulva diagnosed? Do you think my dr can be mistaken by assuming the "loose skin" is just loose skin and not genital warts? I dont know what else to ask or say but please somebody help give me insight on my problem. i hope and pray my dr knows what she is talking about when she thinks the condition is eczema but i am so scared that the loose skin are in reality warts. please help!

All I can say is that genital warts are usually cauilflower in it's shape and texture. If these bumps/tags that you are describing and pretty smooth, I doubt it would be warts. I don't know what tests are done regarding this biopsy. HPV is a virus which infects the cell. I doubt they can "see" the virus. That would probably require some sort of DNA testing. The biopsy will probably involve taking a look at the cells microscopically to see if there are cellular changes.
