I am reading around on this forum, and I am baffled about the numbers of guys having problems with foreskin retraction. These parents who do not show their son's proper hygiene should be slapped or had their son circumcised. Around the time you are 5-8 years old is a good time to start cleaning under the foreskin. Parents need to show their boy in the bathtub how to gently work the skin back and stretch it so it can be cleaned underneath. This just doesn't happen over night, but doesn't take maybe more than a few weeks when you are that age. I just think it is horrible that many parents seem to be neglecting their boys of proper care, and this is exactly how these guys end up 13,14,15,16 years old with an unretractable foreskin.

Parents Need to Get it Together

I agree with you completely. I was going to post something like this, but I didn't want to stir up the friends of foreskin. It seems like half the uncut guys here are struggling with phimosis. Most don't know they should be able to retractby the time they reach puberty. It's fine to try stretching but it doesn't work for alot of guys. They need to try steriod cream or if that fails, surgery. You're also right about parents telling their sons to wash down there. Its alot more fun learning to retract in the bathtub when you're 5, 6, or 7 than when your in puberty and its really holding you back.
-
Yah, exactly. I couldn't imagine not being able to pull back my skin at puberty age, I would be pissed, lol. Guys 5 years old and up, retracting the skin back everyday will definately do a lot of good, and they won't get to being 13 years old and not knowing if the foreskin rolls back or not.
-
My parents never told me anything either. But I somehow just figured it out I guess. I could retract my foreskin for about as I can remember until I got circumcised later on.
-
Well, I can't blame my parents for it. My mom did show me how to clean my penis as a kid, but when I started doing on my own, I got tired of the accute pain on my glan whenever I'd so much as touch it. So in my case, it was totally my fault, though I have finally taken care of the retraction problem after so many years
-
i am 15 and have an unretractable penis. I am currently attempting to loosen it every day and it shows signs of success. I guess one could think that its the parents fault, but hey life goes on, right?
-
Did your parents tell you it's supposed to retract, that's the point. Obviously they're not responsible for serious phimosis.
-
Unretractable penis??? Theat would be a sight to see if it could retract. You mean forskin not penis.
-
lol sorry, typing in a hurry
-
I sure wish they told me something.
-
I wish mine had too, but they didn't...so I'm here helping as many of my fellow uncut guys understand things as much as possible!
-
I used to think it was their fault but then I realized that they were even more clueless about foreskin and foreskin difficulties than I was.I coincidentally told them about my phimosis today. My Dad told me of a similar problem he had briefly when he was about 14 and that he was scared to death because he didn't know what was happening and thought that maybe the nuns were right and God was punishing him for masturbating! When it came to foreskin, my Mom had absolutely no clue what we were talking about. They just weren't educated about this stuff. And we still aren't educated about it today. Not in my experience, anyway. I don't recall any discussion about foreskin or foreskin difficulty in my elementary, middle, or highschool education. No one ever talks about it. I was shocked to see the number of people who had phimosis when I came to this board... shocked, but slightly relieved.
-
oh... so that explains what my parents were doing. :P
-
I completly agree with u on this topic! Cause when i was 6 years old, I had a penis infection (Kinda embarrasing)! But I got through it! I can pull my foreskin back, I've been working on it! I don't remember learning about this stuff in elementary when we did like puberty and all that kinda stuff! Man life is confusing? But w/e I just hope that parents will start doing stuff bout this!
-
what doi you mean by cant retract the foreskin? Like, not pull it back whatsoever? I've been washing down there since I was four and I can pull mine back fine. I always pee in cubicles because I wipe the pee off my cock's head after peeing.
-
I always thought I was wierd. When I was 13 or 14 I had a sort of separation between my head and my foreskin. I could retract is normally, but I manage to 'unglue' the thing that was 'glued' to my cock naturally. I think I was just not cleaning it or pulling it well enought and often enought.I dunno if that's what you mean. My foreskin wasn't actually glued to my cock, but I couldn't pull it further than my cock's bottom 'ring'.

Seatac16:
You are certainly correct about the parents of unretractable young men being remiss in their responsibilities, but you must realize that they grew up in a time when open discussions of sex were almost unknown.
Aside from what they learned on the street, many older people were taught nothing about sex, and what passes for sex education in the schools ... well, you tell us about the reliability of that source of information.
Remember the internet is barely ten years old, and without that advantage, where today would most young people obtain information about the foreskin. After 1950, most American men were circumcised, and usually the procedure was performed without asking the parents. Most American doctors in practice today were circumcised as infants, so knowledge of the foreskin amongst both parents and professionals is minimal, at best. Indeed, medical textbooks of the era illustrated the penis as though the foreskin had never existed.
Above all, we must remember that of the billions and billions of intact men throughout the world, only a very small proportion have what might be termed "problems", and only a small proportion of them seek help, such as at this forum. Considering the failure of both parents and doctors to properly inform children, we should remark not about those few young men who do seek help, but about the wonderful advantage they have to obtain information (not all of which is reliable, alas) at sites such as "Afraid To Ask". After all, that title explains everything about the larger society in which we live.

It seems like most people with phimosis are able to counter it with the stretching exercises. I really hope it helps me, I'm 21 and definately have a bad case of phimosis. I always just thought that "intact" men just didn't have it retract. Kind of a sexual revalation and I wish my parents talked to me about this kind of stuff when I was young. I'm god damned 21! I'm very happy that I stumbled on to this site, cause otherwise I still wouldn't know. I'm wondering if I should tell my dad about this, but I guess there really would be no point. I'm just gonna see a doctor tomorrow to talk about it.

Obviously it is to a couple's great advantage when the man's foreskin is capable of normal movement during sexual intercourse, so you are to be commended for beginning stretching exercises. To give you some perspective, however, it is revealing to note that millions of unretractable men worldwide live their entire lives with no particular problem. Indeed, many of them are unaware of the advantage of being retractable. So don't be too hard on your parents. Most doctors are unaware of normal penile anatomy and functioning, so why should anyone else? Speaking of "perspective", you may consider 21 to be old regarding knowledge of foreskin functioning, but, believe me, 21 is young, and you are fortunate indeed to have discovered the truth now, rather than later.Consult a doctor if you wish, but I'd save my money if I were you. I'd lay odds that the only suggestion a doctor will give you will involve circumcision. Study normal penile functioning and anatomy before seeing him, and if he does reveal his ignorance concerning the subject, you should educate him. By the way, are you seeing a General Practitioner, a dermatologist, or an urologist. It's important to know, as the answers you receive regarding foreskin function will be radically different depending on their training, or lack thereof. A GP will usually have only vague knowledge, so he might well refer you to a "specialist"; a dermatologist might be aware of the possibility of stretching skin, though he may never have faced an unretractable foreskin; but an urologist knows only how to cut, and that's what he is likely to recommend.By the way, foreskin "stretching" exercises always work ... always, that is, unless the individual gives up before completing them. A very few men have given up the attempt out of frustration (though primarily out of laziness), and some have even opted for a circumcision, which only makes matters worse, as genital mutilation completely ends the possibility of a couple ever having a normal, natural sex life.Believe me, the time and effort involved in stretching will be well worth the effort. So just make it a normal part of your day, like brushing your teeth, except that you won't need any tool other than your fingers. You will get to know your penis quite well, and that's always fun, fascinating, and an advantage, too. So look on the process as a blessing in disquise.Korydon

Thanks alot, that really helps. Yeah, I am not even considering a circumcision, not after some of the advantages I read about it. My only reason for going to a doctor (General Practitioner) is to get a prescription in that steroid cream and to get any added tips they may have for these exercises. Yeah, you are right about the GP would recommend me to a urologist. I would think that a "specialist," like a urologist, would know most aspects of phimosis. I mean, hell, they should know all about this stuff from all those medical school years. I don't really hold any of this against my parents at all. Finding this out now actually makes me happy. Because before this I was ignorant about this whole matter. Now, since this thing always eventually works, I'm just thinking about how much better this will all feel.
