I had a soccer coach who told the team something like. "Boys, wear your jocks now you're young or you'll be tripping over your balls when your 40."Does anyone know if it true that doing sports without wearing a supporter causes problems later on?
-
A serious Jock Strap question, if that's possible
-
It can be a problem to have your balls bouncing around when you are playing an active sport, like soccer. In addition, any sport in which you could take a shot to the area (like baseball) you ought to wear a (protective) cup. You're only going to have one set of balls so why not take care of them?

I doubt that the coach's comment could be true, though, or the ancient Greeks would have been in trouble. (The ancient Greeks did gymnastics and other sports nude.)

Lol, they tell you some crap in the "good old" USA. Play the god damn game and stop worrying. I've played football (the correct terminology for your "soccer") for my school and town team and I've never been told to wear a "jock strap" - hell I didn't even know what one was until I googled before writing this post! We invented "soccer" and we don't bother; it just seems you yanks are so damn bothered all the time - look at all the god damn padding and armour you wear when playing American Football: what sort of a mans game is that? Get playing rugby, a real mans game with no armour ffs. And forget that "jock strap" - if you wore that in the UK we would probably laugh at you
-
Thanks for inventing soccer. I actually like lacrosse much better. So what do you wear under your shorts, boxers?
-
Personally I just wear tight-fitting boxers yeah.
-
i don't think that it can cause you many problems in the future, but i just think you'd be more comfortable wearing a jock strap or a pair of briefs. Padding or not, american football can be a brutal sport. just because they don't wear padding in rugby doesn't make them more manly, it makes them dumber. Well, I guess it does make them more manly then.
-
"Well, I guess it does make them more manly then."LOL, that is true, just whenever I see American Football they look like a bunch of sissies. Do a rugby tackle against then with no padding they would soon be crying.

**I had to chuckle at that, i used to have the same kinda argument with a couple of american friends of mine. **

Jockstraps, really, are an American attempt to hide the genitals from a society which is easily embarrassed. Sometime when you are, perhaps, alone in a wilderness area, go nude jogging and you'll quickly see how false was the advice from your soccer coach.Korydon

They do serve a purpose... holding your genitals against your body reduces the risk that you will twist a testicle. Which is extremely painful, I might add.If your coach wants you to wear one, wear one. It's not a big deal. He might not know what he's talking about, but maybe he does.
-
yeah i agree, also they help reduce friction and rubbing wen running
-
Yes you should wear a jock because is will help reduce you testicles from twisting that happened to my cousin and he had to have one of his testicles removed. That sux. So be wise.

In reply to: Jockstraps, really, are an American attempt to hide the genitals from a society which is easily embarrassed. Sometime when you are, perhaps, alone in a wilderness area, go nude jogging and you'll quickly see how false was the advice from your soccer coach. That's not true - you run a greater risk of testicular torsion, spermatic cord injury, and hernia from running without any support. It just hasn't happened to you yet. And jockstraps hiding the genitals?? How do you figure that? They do quite the opposite actually - they create quite the large bulge from holding everything up, and plus, your ass crack is showing with them. They don't hide anything compared with regular underwear.

Ah, well, Focus, irrefutable logic wins the day every time. And who would want to run the risk of serious injury? But, wait! Logic aside, what has been asserted is that a fellows testicles will swing wildly all over the place without "support". It's puzzling, because it flies in the face of my own experience. So, who and what to believe? Could it be that to some extent we are both right?Living, as I do, within a half mile of open desert ... in fact, within shouting distance of two Federal Wilderness Areas, I've had opportunity to test the facts. It turns out that Nature is a pretty smart gal. As we all know, mammalian testicles hang free in order to regulate their temperature. Cool, and they pull up towards the body. Hot, they hang loose and free. One would think that nude jogging, particularly in desert temperatures in excess of 110 degrees F., where the body sweats from being overheated, would mandate that the testicles hang loose and free of the body. In truth, the exact reverse is the case.As the body sweats during a nude workout, sweat pours off the body and over the testicles, cooling them. Naturally, they pull tightly up, towards the body. When a person wears clothing while exercising, however, and sweats, and the testicles are encased within a tight fitting "jockstrap", the body is unable to regulate their temperature. Try as they might, they are unable to cool themselves, sufficiently, to preserve healthy, live sperm.Strangled within their pouch, their support loosens, in a vain attempt to hang loose. Restrictive clothing, then, is what puts the testicles at risk for injury.Athletes in Europe and in Turkey seldom wear an athletic supporter, and many of them have been photographed with their genitals hanging down and out, during an especially vigourous display of physical activity. Europeans may be amused when this happens, but Americans are disbelieving, embarrassed, and shocked. For the same thing to happen in the States would be a huge scandal. Religious leaders and conservative politicians would get involved. Laws would be passed. Restrictive regulations issued. And the offending athlete would be sent home in utter shame.Nature, lovely gal that she is, arranged things to our benefit. The classical Greeks understood this, and they arranged their exercises, their sports, and their wars to reflect simple common sense. It's our Puritanical sense of shame which has put us at risk, and the "jockstrap" is both evidence and proof.Korydon
