Well no matter how red in the face i'm going to be after posting this i need to get some help!I am overweight and instead of rushing towards the knife for Gastric-Bypass surgery, I've gone on a partial liquid diet.Breakfast - fruit smoother/shake(pre-made store bought), waterLunch - same as breakfastDinner - a small, but regular meal. This is my own diet plan and in 4 days i was fully on it i lost 4lbs. however, i was getting terrible stomach pains and gas to boot(obviously body was adjusting). by day 4 i was sitting on the toilet getting nothing like each day before but gas. the next day when i got the same i knew i had to go back to normal foods and have since regained the weight(@_@!) but that's not the problem.. i tried an over the counter gas pill and it didn't do jack. I'm thinking of taking some fiber-filled pills(since i cannot digest prune juice which i hear is supposed to be good for keeping 'regular') and was hoping i could get some suggestions on some good gas relieving products, and something to keep me 'regular', ty for your time in advance! (p.s. quick responses are great ;D since i'd like to get back on track with this diet(nutritionist approved just incase it comes up!)

New diet, gas problems help me out!

I'm no nutritionist, but I have some thoughts.Gas tends to occur when you have a lot of stuff in your diet that you can't absorb but intestinal microorganisms can digest. Beans are notorious, because exactly that happens to the polypentoses they contain. Perhaps the fruit contained something; perhaps your diet caused a change in the populations of your intestinal microorganisms.Fibre won't help immediately with the gas, but it does seem that your diet didn't, and perhaps still doesn't, contain enough of it, so it will do you good. It's better (and cheaper) to use natural fibre than pills, though. Many vegetables will give you lots of fibre without too many calories; bran is also helpful. If you eat small but varied meals, your gas should gradually get back to normal.

I see, thanks so much! I will have to work on more fiber-filled veggies into the diet, hopefully it all works out =)

Don't worry about the weight you lost or gained. It was mostly water. You don't lose fat that quickly.Dairy products will cause gas if you have trouble digesting lactose (milk sugar). One solution: take a lactase tablet (avalable on your pharmacy's shelf) just before you start eating a meal contianing milk products. Cruciferous vegetable (cauliflower, broccoli, turnips, etc.) also tend to cause gas, as well as beans. So do carbonated beverages, and drinking through a straw. If you're limiting your food intake, or are not eating a fully-balanced diet, taking a multiple vitamin won't hurt.If you lose a pound a week, and keep it up, you're doing fine. Do not worry about losing a pound a day! There's no healthy way to do it!
