I have a physical next week and I was wondering what the best way to bring up my phimosis with the Dr. would be.

Bringing it up with Dr.
-
just tell it like it is. The Dr will have seen it all before, and you might be a bit embarrassed but he/she won't be. Hope all goes well

When he tells you to drop your shorts for the hernia check.

so I had the physical and the doctor asked me if there was any problems with my genitals so it was easy to tell him about my phimosis. it was pretty werid him examining it but he could see the problem a phimosis ring. he said the options for treatment are a steroid cream which may losen it, a slit through the foreskin, or complete circumcision. he said if i was his son he would say circumcision but he gave a prescription for the cream which im using. so far my parents know i got this medicine but not why except its for something 'down there' the doctor was kool and this wasnt even the mos embarassing part which was where he showed how to feel your balls so you dont endup like lance armstrong.

Rickwood and colleagues provide a specific medical definition of phimosis: True phimosis is tight non-retractable foreskin caused by Balanitis Xerotica Obliterans (BXO) and is distingished by a whitish ring of hardened sclerotic skin at the tip of the prepuce.2,10 Histologic examination by a pathologist is necessary to confirm the diagnosis.2 If BXO is not present, then true phimosis is not present.2,10 http://www.cirp.org/library/treatment/BXO/Summary: Care of the uncircumcised boy is quite easy. ``Leave it alone'' is good advice. External washing and rinsing on a daily basis is all that is required. Do not retract the foreskin in an infant, as it is almost always attached to the glans. Forcing the foreskin back may harm the penis, causing pain, bleeding, and possibly adhesions. The natural separation of the foreskin from the glans may take many years. After puberty, the adult male learns to retract the foreskin and cleanse under it on a daily basis.

Hey, Willy, Did your doctor diagnose BXO? I suspect not, if he prescribed a stretching cream. By the way, what is the "cream" called?Any doctor who recommends genital mutilation as a "cure" for simple foreskin tightness should receive a good kick in the head. Golly, willy, if you don't have an infection, use your fingers on a regular basis to pull your foreskin open, as directed on many of these threads, and you'll be OK in no time. If its betamethasone that you have ... remember to use only the thinnest film ... just a minute quantity, and only where you are attempting to stretch. Betamethasone works by thinning the skin, but most of the work should be accomplished by using your fingers. Most fellows don't even bother with creams, as they really don't help that much.Leave it to a doctor to prescribe an expensive medicine or a surgical solution to a simple problem. I swear that they would recommend cutting off a finger to get rid of a simple sliver. Anything to justify their professional existence and warrant their fee.Korydon

hey lineok, i dont understand your post atall. my doctor called it phimosis and i looked it up on webmd, etc and phimosis fits what i got.

Which problems may follow foreskin contraction?Foreskin contraction - also called phimosis - can last throughout life and not cause any trouble at all. It is a voluntary decision whether to have an operation or not. If any problems do arise they happen after puberty. The contraction may occur for the first time as an adult and usually requires an operation (circumcision). There might be trouble urinating.Infections may occur under the foreskin. When infections are recurrent under the foreskin, a GP or health visitor should be consulted. In many cases an infection can be avoided by cleaning regularly under the foreskin with lukewarm water. At erection, a contracted foreskin may cause trouble by hurting when an attempt is made to pull the foreskin back. It may not go back over the glans before the penis is limp again.Men may be able to have intercourse with a contracted foreskin but would probably manage better without this condition.Very rarely, a malignant growth can occur in a long-standing foreskin contraction.

Sorry I know everyone is entitled to their opinion but for some reason it annoys me alittle when I hear someone call it "Mutilation". I still stand by circumcision, if for nothing more than cleanliness reasons. Again that's my opinion and in no way do I feel "Mutilated" and not to mention calling Circumcision Mutilation is a rather strong comparison.
-
It depends how you define the word "mutilation". If you look it up on dictionary.com, you could argue that it fits the definition.
-
Willy7187:"Phimosis", strictly speaking, is the term defining foreskin tightness caused by disease."Unretractable foreskin" merely defines a circumstance in which the foreskin has not yet achieved enough exercise to permit normal, free movement back and forth over the glans. Most doctors, despite their years of training, are not suffiiciently aware of the difference, and they usually recommend circumcision as a "cure" for both. Obviously, that handsomely benefits them, financially. And if their patients don't know the difference, why correct their ignorance? Stretching an unretractable foreskin is done without a physician's help, and it doesn't cost the patient a cent.Korydon

I stopped usind the cream becuse is was making the rest of the skin thin but not the tite part.
-
Hmmm....your "doctor" should have instructed you to employ the cream ONLY on the skin which you were attempting to stretch. It must be applied very sparingly and in the thinnest amount. Fortunately, stretching "creams" are largely superfluous to the process: just another expensive method of encouraging patients to spend their money, as though they cannot get along without professional help. This is just another example of how unhelpful most physicians are to the process of foreskin stretching. Your fingers are all you need.

Hey, Korydon, aren't you the guy who had the foreskin transplant? How would you know anything first-hand about stretching phimosis?
-
Liamcny: Students need to do their homework before raising their hand in class. Though the rest of the class might titter in amusement when a fellow speaks without knowledge or understanding, he would be far better off speaking with authority, rather than demonstrating his ignorance. Derision without cause is another example of an attempt at bullying, you see, and it's not very flattering to those who attempt it.As it happens, the facts are located here, at Afraid To Ask. At risk of boring the rest of the class, I'll repeat them, briefly, for you.Stretching a tight foreskin to permit normal, natural retraction would be simple, compared to what I, and thousands of men like me, are doing and have done. We have, understand, not simply stretched a narrow foreskin opening, we have "stretched" an entire foreskin! It's basically the same process which your mother underwent when she became pregnant with you. Gradually, over time, the skin surrounding her stomach grew larger and larger, as you grew in her womb. The same process has happened as you grew from an infant to an adult. Your skin has "stretched", over time, from infant to adult size.Perhaps you didn't realize the fact, but we are all prime examples of the ability of skin to expand, by growing new cells. "Tis not rocket science, after all. Just simple, natural growth. Sit outside tomorrow and watch a tree grow, and you'll get the idea.Korydon

Surgeons sometimes use the same principle to stretch skin used for transplantation to another part of the body. Threre are appliaces that they insert under the skin for the purpose.
-
Korydon blathered:"We have, understand, not simply stretched a narrow foreskin opening, we have "stretched" an entire foreskin! "Yuck, if this doesn't qualify as genital mutilation, what does?"It's basically the same process which your mother underwent when she became pregnant with you. Gradually, over time, the skin surrounding her stomach grew larger and larger, as you grew in her womb. "So you're pregnant with a foreskin? I bet it's a boy.

Ultrasound. When you have it done, you can choose whether or not to be told the gender of the fetus.

yes, i know to just put the cream on the tite part but it smeared all over. thers no way to stretch cause only the skin around it can be grabbed not the ring. im deciding if i should see a specialist about it since i thnk im making it worse.
