ritalin and other add meds do help non-add people focus in a similar way in which people tend to be more awake/focused after a coffee...you don't have to have hyperactivity wiht the add... I am ADD inattentive type without hyperactivity... girls tend to have more the inattentive type rather than the hyperactivity. many girls slip through the cracks this way when it comes to treatment...anyways i wouldn't recommend sharing ritalin wiht your friends. if you think you have add get it checked by a doctor and if he feels its necessary he will prescribe for you. ritalin is a class 2 drug, meaning that you cannot refill it and you have to use written prescriptions and that your doc cannot call it in... the reason why it is is because of people abusing it like you mentioned... it makes it a lot more difficult for people who legitimately need medicine to get it because it is so widely abused...

maybe a little "speedlike" but more similar caffeine. its not "highly" addictive, but you are right, addiction can happen. what you see the most of in ADD people is a "psychological addiction." people are kind of insensitive and tend to tell their kids when they are acting up "you're acting really bad today, did you take your medicine???" so what happens is people end up thinking they can't act normal without their meds.the reason why its a type 2 drug is because of the widespread abuse not so much the addiction... the problem is that kids sell it to other kids and grind it up and snort it (or taking it in other ways it wasn't intended for) which can be VERY dangerous to rush that much of a stimulant in your body at once. i don't know what it feels like, i take mine as prescribed but i imagine it gives you a big rush. also people tend to mix it with alcohol and other drugs with is also dangerous. so in short there are several reasons why its a type 2 drug, potential for addiction being one of them, but mainly the abuse of it. and yes coffee can help focus but i wouldn't mess around wiht caffeine pills they are not good for you, and they don't give you a steady dose of medication its more a big rush and a rapid dropoff. so you might focus better at first but then it would drop off and you'd just need more. (it might be better to take a lower dose/longer acting prescribed med, but thats for a doc to decide).it'd be best to see a doc and get prescribed an appropriate medicine (if necessary) if someone is diagnosed ADD. there are many different options (including some non-stimulant types now) and doses and its always best to take the least amount of medication possible.

exactly, and like i said any doc will tell you that ritalin and other ADD drugs also help non ADD people focus...
