Live 8 and the G8 summit

Together, we can destroy suffering and poverty! And replace it with greed, selfishness and "civilisation" ! ! !

send bush to africa, GREAT IDEA
-
In reply to:send bush to africa, GREAT IDEA im tryin to be serious and u want to inflict even more pain on africa? its already corrupt(ish)! send him there and in a month africa will be fighting libyia or afganistan.........
-
Y'know, actually Bush has done more for the AIDS crisis in Africa than any other president...But I'm still not holding my breath waiting for him to initiate the 'right thing' (whatever that is) at the G8 conference. But maybe he'll surprise us all...
-
I watched live 8 yesterday, and enjoyed it, more so the one from philedelphia than london! But, is there a point, i mean we did all this 20 years ago, and heard onthe radio that things are now worse than they were then. I hope that awareness has been raised, and that maybe the politicians actually do what they should and get rid of world debt, however i don't fully understand the repercussions of that for the countries concerned.Sending money, and raising awareness is one thing, however, its the current government and the corruption that needs to be sorted before things get better it seems.

Bush has done more for the AIDS crisis in Africa...He promised big bucks. What did he actually deliver? The U.S. government won't support any family planning effort where abortion is even discussed (the global gag rule). Meanwhile, the Catholic Church is fighting the use of condoms altogether:In reply to:While the Catholic church has been a commendable participant in many programs that help people living with HIV/AIDS, the church hierarchy continues to obstruct programs that could reduce the spread of HIV. Catholic church officials have condemned HIV/AIDS education and prevention programs that include the promotion of condom use as an effective method to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS. For example, the bishops’ conference in South Africa recently called the use of condoms “an immoral and misguided weapon in our battle against HIV/AIDS,” and noted that “condoms may even be one of the main reasons for the spread of HIV/AIDS” because they undermine the practice of abstinence.(Catholics for Contraception)
-
Lol, wow catholics are dumb. >condoms may even be one of the main reasons for the spread of HIV/AIDS” because they undermine the practice of abstinence.ha ha wtf is wrong with them. my motto is you dont go into battel without a helmet... if you catch my drift
-
Well, although I don't approve of Catholicism's view on contraception, condoms don't actually protect you from all STDs. So although I don't agree with them, I see what point tey're trying to make. They believe that with condoms people ave sex a lot more, making the chance of receiving an STD higher for everyone.
-
They believe...Yup, they believe. But in reality, not having access to condoms doesn't seem to be keeping people from having sex.
-
true but some people are married and dont want more kids. the only way to stop sexualy transmitted desieses is for people to not be such whores.
-
Not only that, but wandering men keep bringing STD home to their wives in Africa. Condoms would be a big plus if men had access to them and could be convinced to use them.
-
Well, I'm there are only a few African men who would refuse to use a condom out of fear of God. And by God, I mean the Christian god.
-
maybe the church of england should put more empasis on people keeping their dick in thier pants rather than trying to improve on the rate of aids and pregnancy victims. I say pregancy victims because most guys looking for a bit of ass dont wanna have a baby afterwards. Are the church of england just aposed to rubbers or are the apposed to the pill too?
-
Its not the church of England that has problem, its just the Catholic side of Christianity. Protestants don't have a problem with contraception, or if they do they aren't as annoying and arogant about showing they have a problem.
-
In reply to:

Are you speaking generally or specifically? Cause I know for a fact there are men who decide not to have intercourse based solely on the fact they don't have a condom..
-
i ment to say catholics not church of england lol sorry
-
I mean that there are a lot of people in Africa (and elsewhere) who are haveing plenty of sex with lots of people without a condom, and not worrying very much about it. That's why people are dropping like flies from AIDS (not to mention the many other STDs). There are many AIDS orphans in Africa.

Okay, let me shake things up and get controversial. But seriously, this is just an honest question.
I remember reading or hearing a couple of years ago that one of the reasons for the AIDS crisis in Africa is the extreme high percentage of uncircumcised men. The researcher apparently thought he found a correlation between being uncircumcised and a higer rate of the virus. His thesis was that the AIDS rate in Africa was higher because most of the men were uncircumcised.
Of course this doesn't explain why America, where most men are circumcised, has a higher AIDS rate than several European countries where the percentage of circumcised men is much smaller. It also ignores the countless other explanations for the higher rate in Africa. Nonetheless, I'm not willing to ignore the theory just yet.
Anybody else heard of this theory?

If it has any effect, it seems to be subtle. Do you have a pointer to some data?
