Does the media ( television, movies, video games, etc) reflect our lives, depict the realities that we live, or does the media actually lead us, make the realities that we live

The media and its influence

both!!
What I hate is when people blame the media for their actions. M.Manson, Judas Priest etc never made killers out of kids!
However, the total lack of real and complete information fed to Americans through their media is the #1 cause of total ignorance. -
when folks blame the media for their actions, they are admitting powerlessness. They are passing on the control of themselves to a fantasy generator, a deceiver, as you pointed out, and remain blissfully ignorant and without blame. But, since the media influences some who are either incompetent buy reasons of mental defect, or by those of such an age as to have formed very imperfect understandings, should the media be held accountable, or be censored?

> But, since the media influences some who are either incompetent buy reasons of mental defect, or by those of such an age as to have formed very imperfect understandings...
Wow. I have news for you: It influences everyone. Even people who think they are very, very clever. People who are not well-read (i.e., ignorant) are easier prey.
> ...should the media be held accountable...
It is often held accountable, to the extent that anyone cares.
> ...or be censored?
No. That cure is worst than the illness. Who would censor the censors?

I have done my part.

Thing such as broadcast TV do have more regulation because, as the Supreme Court has put it, it's "invasive."On adult content (sex), news or politics. Didn't the Supreme Court shoot down the "equal access" requirement for broadcast TV and radio?
-
That didn't make much sense. I meant to say: "Regulation can be imposed on adult content (sex and violence), not news or politics."
