Yes, yes, I am familiar with all of the fats and proteins anc carbs.in fact, I already kno so much about it that I don't need them. I just need to be motivated, which I am. There is atkins which I kno is successdul, and then South Beach, which I've never tried. I'm thinking about going on that. Again, what about the 4-month testosterone treatment? Anyone kno if there are any adverse effects?

Dire need of an Answer

In reply to: Anyone kno if there are any adverse effects? Hormone treatments ALWAYS carry the potential for side effects, most of which would be considered adverse. In general though, as long as you consult a doctor and do it properly, you should be okay. But if you do decide to take this treatment, you must ensure that you notify your doctor the instant you start to suspect things might not be quite right. However, I would think (and I'm not a doctor so please take expert advice) that you probably don't need any testosterone treatment. You've been given sensible diet advice on here. Combined with a low impact exercise regime (you burn fat with low impact and trigger a speedup in your metabolism) that might well bring about the changes you want

atkins is pretty extreme. I look at people on those diets and i feel sorry for them. They look like zombies everyday. I mean come on...cutting out carbs....carbs are a source of energy.
-
But it works. My pastor at church went on atkins and ate less as well. He lost like 85 lbs in 5 months.

But it works. My pastor at church went on atkins and ate less as well. He lost like 85 lbs in 5 months.First of all, if it "works" for one person, it still doesn't mean that it's a good diet for everyone, or safe for anyone. Losing 4 pounds a week is not prudent. Your pastor should have consulted a dietician or someone with a clue before embarking on an unsafe diet. And will he stay on that diet for the rest of his life to keep the weight off?Just because something appears to work for one person doesn't mean that it's safe and effective. Or that it works.
-
yea what steveA says. plus he's a pastor, he doesnt live the rigorous lifestyle that most people do so being tired all the time is ok for him. And also with what stevaA says, do you think you will be able to stick to this diet for the rest of your life? Not a single person i know has. Everyone pretty much lost around 20lbs and then quit.(stuck for less than a year) Its a very strict and boring diet.
-
Yes, but it works. The whole concept does. Eating less everyday will reduce the size of the stomach, which will later stop you from overeating. Cutting sugar and carbs will stop adding to fat. Plus, just drinking more water adds to energy as well and better flush waste throughout the body. It all seems quite plausible
-
It may seem plausible, but you really should research it more before considering it. It certainly is not backed up by science, and can be harmful. Eating less (shrinking stomach, etc.) is one thing; a diet like Atkins in another. If you eat a lot of small meals during the day, your stomach will shrink. If you eat three steaks a day and no bread, you blood vessels will probably clog up eventually. The French eat a lot of bread, and the Chinese (and Middle Easterners) eat a lot of rice. Why aren't they all fat?
-
actually you are wront about some things. Water does NOT give you energy. There is nothing in water than gives you energy. All water does is hydrate you. It does flush your system so drinking tons of it helps. Cutting suger is good for stopping fat but cutting carbs isnt. Reducing carbs is good thought but you still need then. Carbs are the main source of energy you get from foods. Atkins tells you to cut carbs and eat massive amounts of protein but your body will experience a kind of shock when you first try it. It has this huge task of trying to convert protein into energy which is usually gets from carbs. You'll experience something similar to withdrawal the first month you try this then afterwards your body will feel tired all the time. Happens to all atkins dieter's. Eating less everyday will help reduce your stomach but the size of your stomach is not the thing that will help you lose weight. The thing that will help you lose weight is increasing your metabolism. By eating several smaller meals throughout the day, its the easiest way to increase your metabolism, easier than exercising for most people. And adding a exercise program will help with your metabolism even more.
-
also for overweight people, eating less meals during the day (like 2-3) and them being smaller meals isnt as effective as eating 4-6 smaller meals during the day. Your body will end up storing the food since it needs that energy to run during the day. Giving your body a constant supply of energy (eating every 2-3 hours) makes it so that your body doesnt need to try to store anything. You also wont feel hungry between meals (since you're eating every 2-3 hours). Its kinda hard to explain but if you talk to a nutritionalist they will say the same. Trust me its better to get help from a professional then try to do it on your own because most people dont diet correctly even when they try to follow things like atkins I'd say 80% of atkiners dont do it correctly.

There's some evidence that Atkins works because protein makes you feel satisfied at a lower number of calories than carbohydrates or fat do. However, it does put a strain on the biochemistry dealing with nothing but protein, and blood sugar levels are lower, making you feel tired (though this may happen with other diets too).
-
The "feeling tired" part and the boring part make it hard for most people to stick to the diet. And given the stress a diet like Atkin's put on the body, if you going to go on a diet like Atkins', it's probably a good idea to check with a dietician or other medical professional first. That's especially true if your body has trouble regulating blood sugar. In my opinion, after having read up on this stuff and after having spoken with a couple of nutritionists, I'd say it would be a lot better to get yourself on a lifetime diet, where you eat healthy foods, limit caloric intake, and exercise. Even a little exercise goes a long way. Here is an interesting article about the Atkins diet, written by a registered dietician. It was written after a study came out in early 2004, showing that the Atkins diet is effective, but before another study that came out more recently (earlier this year, I think), showing that people on Atkins didn't lose any more weight than people on other diets after a year. The thought is that people just can't stick to the difficult regime; most people are not able to keep eating that way forever. They may lose weight faster over the course of months, but it comes back within a year.It is possible to to adopt eating habits that you can stick with for a lifetime, where you balance caloric intake with calories expended, and where your body gets all the vitamins, minerals, proteins, etc. that it needs to thrive. If only people would be satisfied losing weight at a slow and steady pace.[edit: This is from a doctor who was involved in one of the studies that supported the Atkins diet: "Although broadly supportive of the Atkins regime, Yancy warns that the diet could pose risks including the higher "bad" cholesterol, bone loss and kidney stones. Because of this, he discourages first-time dieters from using the regime."]
-
yea its too bad though, none of all these studies matter because EVERYONE still thinks that just because atkins or whever diets work for others, it'll work for them. Most people are pretty much lost causes when they try to do these kind of diets. You know this and I know this, no one is gonna goto a doctor or nutritionist first before starting these diets and they will always come back to us months later crying because their diet didnt "work". I pretty much have given up trying to help family and friends with their diet because they dont ever listen to me yet they always come back complaining that i have good genes or some bullshit. How can i have good genes, both my parents are overweight, my brother, and all my other relatives.

The reason I would never touch the Atkins diet is because now, after 7 (or 8?) years of it being around, the medical community still can't agree on what's happening to people who follow this regime. Some doctors say it's exactly as Atkins described, some doctors say it's just water that's being lost, some doctors say it's muscle mass that's being burned off and a myriad number of others have a myriad number of other theories! These people are experts and they can't agree on an answer!A recent study published in New Scientist (I believe the study was American and was the largest and longest study ever carried out on the Atkins diet so far (4 years, 1800 people)) suggested that the people who lost weight did so only because they were taking in fewer calories every day. However, another poll (French) suggests that this isn't true (they said that over 70% of the people they examined were taking in more than 4000 calories a day and still losing weight) and another poll (German or Swiss I think) suggests that most Atkins dieters put the weight back on in less than 2 years. At the current time, most information about the Atkins diet is confusing and contradictory. I personally think it could be very dangerous to your liver and potentially your heart, over a sustained period but then, I'm not a doctor so don't take my word for it
-
Well, I guess it could be harsh on your body, but its all natural and cuts the pounds. Though I bet just not dieting would be just as good to you. If I'd cut out soda/pop, and exercise, I'd prolly lose weight as well.
But soda is like the thing I hate to lose, even though I know itd be good for me.
-
Its funny you should say that its all natural. Just because something is all natural doesnt mean its good for you. Too much of anything is bad for you. As far as atkins, it would be too much steak and meat i guess. I doubt its good for you're heart and liver like the previous person says. But whatever dude, its your body you can choose to do whatever with it. Its always good to consult your physician first before going on any sort of diet.
-
its all naturalAs abc123 said, just because something is natural doesn't mean it's good. Some natural things can kill you. What diet is not natural?> and cuts the poundsBut the problem is that the weight doesn't stay off for most people. Atkins is a difficult diet to stick with. How about if, before starting a fad diet, you try for a few weeks eating fewer calories, cut out soda and white bread and such, try to get at least some exercise, and see how it goes? If nothing good happens, then you can think about it some more.
-
i was on atkins for mm.. maybe.. 4 months?it works, hell yes it does.. but you feel like shit ALL THE TIME. you have NO energy..you FEEL gross and grogy..you know the feeling after you get upfrom sleeping for a really long time?it's like that.. ALL THE TIME.lol.. i quit atkins and now i'm a vegetarian.ha ha ha ha.seriously, atkins is gross.. don't do it.6 healthy small meals a day.. dooooooooooooo it!

I have a brother that's about your age who has been over weight for the last few years and now that he is starting to lose the weight he is noticing a big difference in puberty, so this could very well be in relation to your weight.
As for as the Atkins diet I have known many people who have tried the diet and failed because 1) lack of energy and 2) they had a hard time staying away from carbs.
But I do know one friend of mine, Shannon, who has been on the Atkins diet now for about 2 years and has lost over 110 lbs (most of that was in the first year) and looks great. But she also follows the rules of the diet STRICTLY. There's a point where you add some carbs back in. Pretty much all diets, you just need to research them and follow the plan as directed and exercise!
Though personally I would speak to a Nutritionist before I did any radical diets.
