I have been dating my girlfriend for over 2 years now and we have been having sex for a little over a year. About a year ago she got on the pill and we have mainly been having unprotected sex. Last month we had sex probably 4 or 5 times and i never came inside of her. she didn't miss any pills, and now she's 6 days late on her period. she has been a few days late on her period in the past year (while on birth control) but never this long. i am extremely nervous and want to know if she could be pregnant or if this happens to other girls? any help is greatly appreciated.

Pregnancy and Birth Control

**worrying about being pregnant can sometimes cause a period to be late, and i daren't mention this or steve will moan at me but i got pregnant twice while on the pill. I would get a pregnancy test and find out for sure if you are worried. **

Periods can be late. If she took her pills exactly as directed, there a 0.1% (average) failure rate, plus the fact that you never came inside her. I wouldn't worry too much about it at this point, but a pregnancy test (supposedly useful as soon as 6 days from a missed period) might set your mind at ease.

alright well it's been a little longer than 2 weeks and she's still late. she got a pregnancy test and it said that she is not pregnant. is there still a possibility that she is pregnant? could the pregnancy test be wrong? i'm still a little nervous... is it possible to miss a period completely while on birth control?

is it possible to miss a period completely while on birth control?Yes. Stress, such as that caused by worrying about pregnancy, can play havoc with period timing.CHC Medical Library says:In reply to:Home pregnancy tests are more than 97% accurate if the result is positive, and about 80% accurate if the result is negative. If the result is negative and there is no menstrual period within another week, the pregnancy test should be repeated. While home pregnancy tests are very accurate, they are less accurate than a pregnancy test conducted at a lab. For this reason, women may want to consider having a second pregnancy test conducted at their doctor's office to be sure of the accuracy of the result.I seriously doubt that you have anything to worry about if she was taking the pill properly, but you can repeat the test, or get a more definitive test from a family planning clinic or doctor.

my girlfriend has now taken 3 pregnancy tests and all 3 come up negative. it has been about 3 weeks now since she was supposed to get her period, i'm assuming she just completely missed it altogether. do you think it's necessary to get a pregnancy test done by a lab?
-
It really really sounds like she's not pregnant, but no one can say that the chance is 0.0000%. It would be easier to take the test than to stress out over it for another week. But it really is not wierd to miss a period.

if ur that worried go to the dr.i got pregnant 4 times on the pill but i learned later why and it wasn't that i missed one pill either
-
Why did you get pregnant four times while taking the pill (even though you took them as prescribed)?
-
found out later dr forgot to inform me that the medication i took to get rid ovarian cysts cancels the pill it wasn't in the package when i took the pills and he forgot to tell me. out of 9 pregnancys i got pregnant 4 on the pill two of those i carried through and the other three i was trying for stupid me thought it would help our marriage. how i am still trying to figure out . but i knew that is what i wanted then . i don't want it any more.and now i am back on the pill after having a reversal two yrs ago
