What are you using for a browser, firewall, pop-up blocker, anti-virus, anti-spyware, router, etc.? Windows XP?
-
Use Opera Browser, you can block all popups
-
Firefox just had another updated yesterday (version 1.0.6). Seems to work OK, as far as I can tell. With periodic spyware checking, Norton Internet Security (which includes antivirus / firewall /intrusion detection), and Firefox (updated and properly set up), I get no popups or spyware or virus problems.

I have XP, firewall, popup blocker, anti virus, and i have a routor, my virus protection is mcafee.

Which Web Browser do you use? As was mentioned, you can turn off Javascript, which will stop the popups, I'm using Firefox set to block popups, and configured to limit what Javascript can do; that takes care of a lot of the problem. On top of that, turning on Norton Internet Security's "ad blocking" feature takes care of the rest.

With IE, if you add it to your trusted sites (tools, internet options, security, click on trusted sites, click on sites, and add this site. That should help with the pop ups. On the downside, it disables javascrip so you'll have to manually type on the graemlins.Javascript is not disabled in the trusted sites security setting. You have to disable it yourself.

can someone walk me through the steps for disabling that java thing? the popups have been crazy the past few days
-
You first have to tell us which Web browser you're using.
-
i am using IE

IE

Sorry, I use Firefox. I get better results with that browser, but many others are happy with IE. DesertFoxAZ, can you help?
-
but steve you know everything! how can you not know IE? I'm sure that was the first browser you ever used!
-
Netscape Navigator was the first browser I used, on a Sun Sparcstation Unix workstation. I didn't have to deal with any Microsoft software. Life was good.Have you seen this thread? Check out the third post, where sdp's comments on "active scripting".Personally, I'd just download and use Firefox. It's free and easy to set up. It alone will get rid of a lot of popups. You can also (relatively) easily switch Javascript on and off, which will deal with all popups.I use Firefox and Norton Internet Security (which a lot of people bitch about, for good reason), set up reasonably, and I still get no popups from this site. With rebates, you can get NIS for free from places like Staples (on line).

For IE:
I use IE but I put www.afraidtoask.com in the Trusted Sites(under Tools/Internet Options/Security) and disabled Active Scripting.I don't get any pop-ups/viruses but the Graemlins and Instant UBB Code doesn't work becasue of it. I have to type it in manually.
Make sure you disable:
Active scripting
Allow paste operations via script
Scripting of Java applets
