Hey everyone. This is my first post in this section since i've been here. My dog has a tick on her face, a little above or on her eyebrow. I've been scared to remove it off of her because the face is sensitive and when it's healing she will scratch it with dirty paws. The dirt could get in the bite and cause infection. Is it safe to use rubbing alcohol on her? This is the second day i've known about this tick.

Dog has a Tick...

hey there! I see no reason why you cannot remove the tick, and yes you can use rubbing alcohol on the wound once the tick is removed. But please when you remove the tick make sure you get the head and all so not to cause infeection. If you are concerned about that I am sure you can call you vet and your vet can remove it for you for a small fee. Heck I know my vet would do it for free.

I agree with Ntroducing. Alcohol is fine to use. I always heard that heat (like from a cigarette) will make a tick come out, but to be on the safe side I would go to the vet.
-
You can put carmex over the tick that makes the head come out, then get it from there.
-
lol just noticed I said infeection LOL..meant infection of course.. And never knew that about Carmex, that's an interesting note to make =-)
-
we just have this 'tick pen' thingy, u place it on the tick, and turn it so it makes rounds, and the tick will come out entirely with the head, and no wound?
i have 2 dogs, always done that, no problems ever~ -
I thought your dog had Tourette's syndrome or something. Never mind.
-
Using a cigarette to remove the tick from the dog's head is a REALLY bad idea, since most dogs will squirm around. You would probably burn her.
I was told not to use anything other than 3% hydrogen peroxide for cleaning infections, but that was from my grandpa, and not from a vet.
Also, I recommend getting your dog Frontline (for any ticks she may encounter in the future). Just call your vet, he should be able to hook you up.

steve... I'm so confused! how did you come up with the dog having tourettes?? made me laugh anyway
-
People with Tourette's Syndrome have tics; dogs have ticks.AHD:In reply to:tic - A habitual spasmodic muscular movement or contraction, usually of the face or extremities.tick - A light, sharp, clicking sound made repeatedly by a machine, such as a clock. Now, why do dogs make clicking sounds, and how will a PBS news-and-current-events program cure it?

LOL! Ok!!! That really has cheered me up tonight Maybe someone planted a bomb on the dog?
-
A tick infestation is a ticking time bomb. Taking the time to tackle ticks tells Towser* that those terrible ticks don't tickle, and must be made to capitulate.___________________________* Towser is the name of a friend's wire-haired terrier.

Oh god. My head!!! So so many T's :open_mouth:
Glad you explained the Towser bit.. was regressing to nintendo stage thinking about big green dinosaurs called bowser (it's late and I'm tired, don't blame me!) -
Whee! Alliteration!
