A girl can get pregnant on during the time of month that she's ovulation. The problem is that it's almost impossible to tell exactly when that is, and sperm can live in the woman's body for some time, and make her pregnant when she does start ovulating. In other words, the rhythm method (trying to time it so you have sex when you think the woman is not ovulating) is a very failure-prone form of birth control.

Expanding on Steve's explanation, the average woman is most fertile around the middle of her period cycle and least fertile at the beginning and end (that is, near when she is actually having her period), but it's not at all a reliable form of contraception. It's particularly unreliable in teens, when periods tend to be especially irregular.

Its impossible to get pregnant when a girls actually on her period because there is no little egg, but every other time of the month is fair game...

Not impossible, stars, though least likely. Though most sperm die quickly, some can survive for a few days, and if the woman ovulates very early, it's possible, though unlikely.
