okay, my girlfriend and I have been dating for 6 months, and the first month she had her period but hasn't had it since (its been nearly 6 months since she had it)is it even possible that she could get pregnant if she hasn't had her period in months?

Period/Getting pregnant
-
Hold on, have you guys had sex? If you had, I would strongly advise you to get her a pregnacy test or go to the doctors. Six months without one? That's too long.
-
she should have a belly by now if indeed she's pregnant after 6 months....no?
-
we just had sex a few days ago for the first time, but before that she didn't have her period for like 5 monthsis it possible to impregnant a girl that hasn't had her period in so long?
-
Well, it starts to show after about 5 months. Someone who is a bit overweight may not show much, though.Has she been on a severe diet?
-
Ah, I see - yes, it is possible. If her periods have just re-started, ovulation comes first, before the period, so she can get pregnant before you know they have started again.
-
shes going to the doctor about not having her period in so long (she thinks hes because she doesn't eat much)but is it possible for a girl to even get pregnant if she hasn't had her period in so long (because don't they need to to get eggs or some thing?
-
say her periods don't restart, is it still possible for her to get pregnant?
-
It's actually possible for her to be pregnant, if she ovulated and your sperm caught it. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference between that and her periods having stayed stopped, except by a pregnancy test (or by waiting some months).
You should never use periods having stopped as a reason for unprotected sex. They could restart at any time, and she can be fertile before you know they have restarted.

Ineligible answered your question: Yes. Before you have a period, you ovulate. When you're done ovulating and no pregnancy has occurred, you have a period. Ovulation can start at any time. If a period occurs, you can say, "Gee, I dodged the bullet; she had a period, so it looks like she's ovulated, but I didn't get her pregnant".Is her body very lean? Progesterone (and estrogen?) is fat-soluble, so if she doesn't have enough body fat, she will not ovulate, and thus not have a period.
-
we used protection and stuff but just was curious,
thanks alot!

"Is her body very lean? Progesterone (and estrogen?) is fat-soluble, so if she doesn't have enough body fat, she will not ovulate, and thus not have a period."yea shes really skinny and thtas what she thinks is causing her not to have her period, so if she doesn't have enough body fat, no ovulate=not possible to be pregnant
-
That is the theory, but it's not always easy to see what's going on. As was said, even if she hasn't had a period for a while, she could ovulate today, and she'll have a period in a couple of weeks (or not have a period, if she's pregnant).
-
both progesterone and oestrogen are fat soluble hormones but that is not the reason why ovulation occurs. the amount of fat determines the concentration of another hormone called leptin. this hormone acts in the brain to regulate your appetite for fat and maintains your body's fat stores. progesterone and oestrogen are produced by the ovaries in resoponse to two other hormones, called luteinising hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) which are released from the brain. it is the LH and FSH which cause ovulation and the egg that is recruited for ovulation from the ovary then releases the oestrogen and progesterone. oestrogen is also released from the adrenal glands, and can also be produced from the fat tissues by converting yet another hormone. hormones can get really complicated and it is no wonder that women get moody before their periods or when they are pregnant!

And the hypothalamus's release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) modulates the pituitary gland's release LH and FSH.
In reply to:
We have known for some time that women who have very low body fat and/or those who exercise vigorously can stop ovulating. Once they stop ovulating, they no longer produce essential hormones like estrogen and their periods can also stop or become infrequent. This condition is called hypothalamic amenorrhea.
Traditionally, in order to achieve pregnancy in these women, we used one of several techniques. First, we might ask the woman to decrease or stop her exercise or try to gain weight. This is usually successful in getting ovulation to return. However, some women are reluctant to try this approach. for them, we would use fertility medications to induce ovulation. This is effective but requires monitoring and has a risk for multiple pregnancy.
Researchers in Boston recently studied 14 female athletes who had stopped menstruating on average five-and-a-half years before the start of the study. They had about 40-percent less body fat than the average woman. Eight of the women received leptin, while the others served as controls. After just three months of treatment, women receiving twice-daily leptin supplements resumed menstrual periods, and their ovaries began to function normally. The hormone also significantly improved bone density bone markers in the blood. No change was observed in the control group.
Pretty interesting stuff. Leptin supplements can overcome hypothalamic amenorrhea.
