Hey i know that your supposed to take a day rest for lifting weights. You dont have to take a day rest for sit ups and crunches right?

i think that is a myth actually your abs are like anyother muscle they need rest... you can do it every day but dont do them as hard. Its like running, you run everyday but if your training you have easy days so your muscles have to time to regenerate.

Um well for every 1 hour of work you need to take 2 hours of rest.

Yeah I agree. If I work on my abs every single day they are stiff and achey, therefore making the next day harder to do. So I think leaving a day of rest in between works better.
