i'm about to get one this week..but it is a LOT of fuckin money..1000$ for 20 sessions..is it worth it?

Are personal trainers worth the money?
-
Depends... What do you need one for, losing weight? gaining weight? muscle? To be totally honest, I don't think they're worth the money. Best thing to do is a get a buddy to go along with you each time (if possible) so that you can push each other through whatever you're trying to do. If you can't do that, just read up on the stuff you'd like to do; it's all there on the internet. I learned a lot by researching and experiementing, it can be time consuming but it's worth it in the end, if you have the time.

yeah best to find someone who you are good friends with, then go with them. Helps if one of you are already experienced with working out.

To be honest, personal trainers are not worth the money. If you're not knowledgeable about exercise/nutrition etc. then having a one-off consultation with a PT can certainly provide you with useful information but once you've established some basic training patterns (and/or diet advice if that's what you need) it's just as good simply to work out either on your own or with a training partner. However, the one advantage PTs do have is that they have the expert knowledge to stop you making common mistakes when training, such as bad posture, bad technique etc.I did a sports degree before switching to physics and I now work 2 evenings a week as a PT at a local gym. Although I'm doing myself out of money, I always advise people that by taking my advice and applying it themselves, they can dispense with my services if they really want to.Luckily for me, there's a lot of people out there who simply want to be seen with a personal trainer

Yes, they are! Especially if the have formal training! ZYou get in better shape using a trainer far faster tha reading fitness book and taking advice from fat people!

maybe i'm crazy, but i love it.

As I said above, having a session (or 2 or 3) with a personal trainer can help almost everybody. But if you pay attention to what they tell you in those first sessions, I don't consider it's necessary to continue paying out for them every week.

How will you know how to progress? How will you knw what to do after you are over the first hump?
