Heya, When i woke up this morning i felt really sick, and was at the toilet all day throwing up mostly just that yellow stomach acid stuff until there was nothing left to throw up. I had really bad cramping in my stocmach and my whole body is achy. Its about 11 hours later, and i just went to the bathroom and its just diarhea. Could this possibly be food posioning? My dinner the night before i felt sick was Mcdonalds. Also i had a loss of appatite the whole day up until now, ive gained the courage to eat some soup and cracker's.

Maybe Food Poisoning?
-
Thx for the reply. I just assumed it might have been food poisoning from Mcdonalds since i havent been around anyone with the flu that i could catch it from.
-
It could be either food poisoning or a gastric virus.

How long was it from eating to throwing up? If it was more than a few hours, it's less likely to be food poisoning....but it could be. You can pick up a bug in a variety of ways, like if you shook hands with someone who recently went to the bathroom and didn't was his hands, before eating your hamburger.
If you feel better within a day, though, it's very unlikely to be the flu, and is more likely food poisoning.
How's that for hedging?

No, I think you have it backwards. And they're both usually self-limiting, in a healthy person.
-
It depends how serious it is - how badly the food was contaminated. It can be anything from feeling slightly queasy to death. But a stomach bug would be quite likely, I agree.

What is a "stomach virus"? If you have the flu, it can affect your digestive system. You will also have other flu symptoms. But what most people call a "stomach virus" is actually bacterial food poisoning (or ingesting bacteria from your hands, etc.).

I would say it was about 17-24 hours after eating that i started feeling sick. Right now im not throwing up havent for hours but still have a slight stomach cramp. I took some advil a few hours ago which may be keeping me feeling ok i will have to see how i feel tomorrow when i wake up. If i wake up feeling like i did earlier today im just going to go to the doctors. Im pretty sure it is food poisoning but you never know.

I would say it was about 17-24 hours after eating that i started feeling sick. You didn't eat or drink (other than water, soda, etc.) anything at all in all those hours?> I took some advil a few hours ago which may be keeping me feeling okAre you running a fever? Because I doubt that Advil will have any direct effect on how your stomach feels. If you still feel lousy tomorrow, it couldn't hurt to call the doctor. In any case, you want to make sure that you're not getting dehydrated. Also, there's prescription stuff you can get to control nausea.

You didn't eat or drink (other than water, soda, etc.) anything at all in all those hours?I had drank the coke from Mcdonalds thats about it. In most those hours i was asleep.Ya i was running a fever. Now i just feel fluish. Havent thrown up today. But still feel a little clamy minor stomach aches. Mostly just my body feels weak atm.

Slight food poisoning and a stomache flu have nearly the same symptoms. And it is usually gone before being properly diagnosed. I remember bad bouts from Chi Chi's, Mcdicks, Burger King and A&W as well as Bonanza, Hardy's Arbies, Chinese Buffet and so forth. And yes I am advertising.

It could be a number of things. If it's food poisoning, the number of hours after eating that you started feeling sick could indicate something, along with the specific symptoms. Some species of bacteria that cause foodpoisoning don't colonize in your body, rather you get sick from the toxins they produce that is then in the food. So, you would start feeling sick within an hour or two. Others will colonize in your body and then make you sick, so that would take at least six to eight hours.Otherwise, it could be a stomach virus. Just rest, and make sure you stay hydrated.

[I agree with what dobol'n'iy said.]> Slight food poisoning and a stomache flu have nearly the same symptoms. That is completely wrong. The flu can affect your digestive system, but whether it does or not, it runs the course that influenza normally does, fever and all, over the course of days. Many cases of food poisoning are blamed on "a bug" or "the flu".According to the CDC (http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dbmd/diseaseinfo/foodborneinfections_g.htm#howmanycases),In reply to:An estimated 76 million cases of foodborne disease occur each year in the United States. The great majority of these cases are mild and cause symptoms for only a day or two. Some cases are more serious, and CDC estimates that there are 325,000 hospitalizations and 5,000 deaths related to foodborne diseases each year. The most severe cases tend to occur in the very old, the very young, those who have an illness already that reduces their immune system function, and in healthy people exposed to a very high dose of an organism.
